5 Year Old Mozilla Firefox Tops Vulnerability List

firefox 3.5 logoWhile Mozilla Firefox celebrates its 5th birthday, Cenzic, an application security vendor, claims that the Mozilla Firefox led the field of Web browsers in terms of total vulnerabilities.

This is certainly not a good news for Mozilla.

According to Cenzic, Firefox accounted for 44 percent of all browser vulnerabilities reported in the first half of 2009. In contrast, Apple’s Safari had 35 percent of all reported browser vulnerability, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer was third at 15 percent and Opera had just six percent share.

Does it make Firefox a dangerous web browser?

The Firefox plug-ins are one of the main reasons of the vulnerabilities. Mozilla launched a plug-in checker in Oct 2009 to address the problem.

Ironically, while Firefox has the most vulnerabilities, Cenzic themselves use Mozilla technology within its own solutions.

    Happy 5th birthday, Firefox. Now, Mozilla Firefox is my second favor web browser, my most liked is Internet Explorer web browser. I love firefox because it provide many plugs-in and more web browser more personalized. I don't think that Firefox is the dangerous web browser. is it Cenzic make security ?

    Yeah! Because Firefox was used by me recently, since I have bought PC computer first time, I only know Internet Explorer, so until now it will be my most favor web browser. What do you think about Firefox ? Is it your premium web browser now ?

    Firefox is my primary web browser all time. I tried to switch to other web
    browsers but still back to Firefox at the end. Can't live without Firefox
    addons. :)

    Oh I see, Thank you for sharing with me. I will try to more understand the Firefox browser, see whether it is so good for me to search the internet.Now, I use Firefox, IE, Google Chrome as my web browser, I will try to more into Firefox to understand it whether is suitable for me.
