PAYPAL HAS AGREED to shell out more than $9.25 million to customers who accused the eBay division of illegally freezing their accounts.

According to News.com, as part of the out of court settlement, PayPal gets to refuse to admit that it was their fault. The plantiffs claimed that in early 2002, PayPal was understaffed. To sort out this problem it hid its customer service phone numbers to save money. If you could get a staff member on the phone, they were rude and unhelpful and did not answer emails. However later “without notice or warning, erroneously and unnecessarily” PayPal limited or closed accounts and then made it difficult to restore them.
