I believe you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed to read crossplatform compatible PDF files. PDF files is great to sharing documents in multiple platforms environment.
I don’t know if you found that Acrobat Reader is slow to load. It takes almost one minute to startup on my Pentium 3. I have tried manual way to tweak the Acrobat Reader, but it is not perfect. I can’t get rid of the annoying advertisement and auto updates.
Here I found a small tool to tweak Acrobat Reader – PDF SpeedUp. It is freeware, small size, and no installation required.
Here is some of the PDF SpeedUp tweaks:
- Turn off “Updates” features
- Disable startup splash screen
- Turn off advertisement at upper right corner
- Do not load plug-ins at startup
- Disable user selected plug-ins
- and more…
You may ask, “What if I want to get back some of the features/plug-ins?”
No worry, there is a “Restore” button for you to restore everything back to default.
Note: The company also has AcroPDF, a freeware to generate PDF file.
Thought:
I have tweaked my Acrobat Reader 6.0 and now it starts EXTREMELY fast! Wow! I can’t believe it was the snail loading speed Acrobat Reader!
Highly recommended if you use Acrobat Reader! *thumb up*
