advertisement

After running Google Adsense for few months, here I share my adsense tips, for FREE. :)

Keep in mind: If you want to use Google Adsense, SHOW the ads to your blog readers! Do NOT hide the ads!

Ad Color
Try to match the ads to the theme color of your blog design. Make the ads as part of your blog. Standout ads with eyes catching colors does not work, at least not for my blog.

Ad Placement
The position of ads displayed in your blog is very important to get higher click rate.

  • Inside/bottom of blog entry(permalink)
  • For TOWER type, place at the right/left top of the page(without need to scroll down). It has much more clicks than put ads at the bottom.

Examples:

  1. Put Medium Rectangle at the bottom of blog entry.
  2. Put (Wide)Skyscraper at the Top Right of the page.

Ad Channel
The different ad placement and format may have different performance on your blog. Make use of the Ad Channel to track the ad performance. Name the channel with position and ad type(e.g.: top_left_skyscraper), give it a trial for a month and see the performance.

Warning:

  • DO NOT click your own Adsense ads.
  • DO NOT ask people to click on the ads

Thought:
These are the tips I gathered after running Adsense since September 2004. Hopefully they are helpful for you. And, please support my blog if they are helpful. :)

If you have better tips, please share with us. Thank you.

  • I am not a fan ads being placed in personal blogs but am still curious on how much money these things can make.
  • We're not supposed to disclose our earnings thru Adsense...
But what I can tell you is that my Adsense is not working.. too many page impressions, zero clicks
  • Cheers. If I have to guess it would probably be similar to the AllAdvantage scam from several years ago (2 quid a month). Fun while it lasted.
  • Chewxy: Adsense policy changed. :) We are now allowed to disclose our revenue earned through adsense.

Jon Choo: Ermm, I never heard of AllAdvantage tho, but Adsense is not a scam to me.
  • Ops, Thanks for the tips, mate :)
  • I don't mean scam literally.

AllAdvantage was a different way of making money back then, its different from Adsense because its not about putting ads on websites but about participants watching ads instead.

Many of us participants would download a small utility (that hovers the mouse) that would trick AllAdvantage's software into believing we were watching ads. :)

Back then I had 24 hours connection to a T1 line via wired LAN so I left it on most of the time. And still only RM14 a month.

Not a scam, we still get paid but for the amount of time we wasted on it with little in return might constitute to some people as a scam.
  • thanks for the tips, lcf. very timely for me as i just install adsense last week... but had problems lah. the ads cannot be seen in some browsers. hey, i try your suggestion of having the ads after my blog entry but it didn't work. message says it doesn't accept the script tag or something like that.

jon, now that you mentioned alladvantage, yes i remember it. i used it long long time ago when i first started to get online i think, i.e. 5 years ago. can't remember did i get any payment or not.
  • If anyone doubt about Google Adsense, I have received US$100 cheque from Google. I make around US$50 per month from Google Adsense.

    @Chewxy: try my tips.

@lucia: then you need to put the adsense code in the blogger template.
  • tell me about the performance of your adlinks. It seems didn't work for my blog.
  • I do not track the adlinks performance. start tracking now :)
  • WOW! you earned US50 per month? i respect you from toe to head.

    *i don't even earn a buck in a month
  • write good content and you shall get the reward. ^^
  • No offence dude, but the amount of ads you have on your page is quite a lot. Any idea how to minimize ads and yet get a higher return? :)
  • no offence also, tell me how many ads you see per page in this site? :)

"Any idea how to minimize ads and yet get a higher return?"

I am looking for this kind of good deal, too! I can put only a very small text link ad, if everyone click on it. ;)
  • Liew
Just want to pop a note to say 'Thank You' for this info. I installed Adsense on my Penang Faces blog and yay, I earn USD90 CENTS in one day. Hahaha, still it is thrilling.

[edited: removed adsense sensitive sentence. sorry.]
  • LcF
@lilian: here are some tips for your site's adsense. Use #FFFFFF(white) for border and background. In front page, move the skyscrapper adsense up(as much as possible). In permalink view, don't put adsense in comment part, put in your entry body(after header, in the body or and the end).

Try, these tips may increase your income. :)
  • [edited: removed adsense sensitive sentence. sorry.]

Hey, liew, I hope google will not read it, or otherwise you might be in trouble. Click exchange is prohibited too, visitors only click on the ads when they interested in it.
My earning from adsense is averagely USD 700 permonth but this month I'm gonna get more than USD 1,000 for the 1st time. Hope it will make you guys know what is the potential of adsense. One of my webmaster colleague from US even got USD 1,000 a day. If you guys would like to read few tips on adsense, you read my blogs http://www.adsense-blogs.com
  • LcF
@alang: no, I do not do click exchange. Well, I better remove that sentence to avoid misunderstanding. Glad that your Adsense Blog is back. I am sure we can learn alot from you. :)

Ya, my adsense earning is increasing alot this month too. I probably make RM1000 this month. Of coz, it is still far less to compete your USD1000!
  • Yeah, I know that you do not do click exchange, but others who read it might misunderstood it.

Wow, I know the feeling to get that kind of money for the 1st time. Just wait till your adsense income is more than your salary. You always feel like to quit your job. BTW, regarding the adsense blogs, as you can see not many content there, the blogs is more a place for me to share my experience with adsense rather than giving out tips like other adsense blogs. Maybe I will write it in Malay language, and targeting malaysian webmaster. I know lots of malaysian webmaster still do not aware the potential of adsense
  • LcF
hmm... feeling? just try to get more and more and more... getting more greedy and spend more time on it. :P

I won't quite my job lah. I am quite enjoy my current fulltime job, actually. You know, it is a cosmetic company. Hehehe... *evil laff*
  • Hi, thanks for that tips.
Recently I've added AdSense to my blog too :), http://tiendq.blogspot.com, I'd like to share tips about search engines optimization also.
  • I am planning to use Google AdSense for my website and it asks for my tax info. Do they always do this?

    Gabrielle Gibson (Ellie)
  • LcF
Gabbie: if you are U.S resident, Google will deduct the tax for you.
  • Good information, it's very helpfull. Thanks.
  • I ahve a blog on Adsense too and it is making the most of all my blogs.I had a click today that I didn,t have to promote to get so far and it is only 6 AM CST.Someone must have found my blog and liked it.I got over a dollar in all blogs, not gonna say exactly how much as that is against TOS and I value adsense to do that.
  • I put Google Ad Sense on my site. I have a search engine, but no ads are registering. It shows a link called Sumbitawebsite.com What should I do?

    Gabbie
  • LcF
