Desktop publishing specialist Adobe Systems is buying multimedia applications maker Macromedia in a $3.4 billion deal geared toward building a software powerhouse.

The all-stock deal, announced Monday, is designed to create a better-stocked source of tools for building and distributing multimedia content across a range of operating systems and devices, the companies said. They also stressed that the merger will enable them to expand more rapidly into the market for audio and video applications for handhelds and other gadgets.

FlashPaper is not meant to replace PDF. It is not PDF's competitor. It further enhances PDF's usability.

So, to answer your question, why not?

"Will Flash on mobile phone continue? What is the Adobe’s next move?"

    Even bigger why not?

Buying a company doesn't mean destroying competition. It means it'll further strengthen the strength of both (now one) companies by not developing overlapping products, and if possible, develop products that can further strengthen each other's aready well-known products.

FlashPaper is just the best example in this case. Flash and PDF are both one of the biggest Macromedia and Adobe's selling products. It is a good product that would further boost the strength of both companies! I'm sure instead of the whole project be abolished, more will be funded towards getting it to perform better.

what i see is flashpaper will use in website and PDF will used in interexchange between companies. I do not mean flashpaper will replace PDF.

btw, merging of companies will drop some of non-profit products.
