It means it'll further strengthen the strength of both (now one) companies by not developing overlapping products, and if possible, develop products that can further strengthen each other's aready well-known products. FlashPaper is just the best example in this case. Flash and PDF are both one of the biggest Macromedia and Adobe's selling products. It is a good product that would further boost the strength of both companies! I'm sure instead of the whole project be abolished, more will be funded towards getting it to perform better. “Will FlashPaper replace PDF in websites?”

FlashPaper is not meant to replace PDF. It is not PDF’s competitor. It further enhances PDF’s usability.
