After installation, Google Web Accerator(GWA) automatic add a button to your browser toolbar(both Internet Explorer and Firefox). No configuration needed.

Clicking the meter button, you get few options. In the “Preferences” page, you can set your connection speed(dialup is Not recommended), enable pages prefetching, how frequently to check cached pages update, clear history(cache) and add a list of websites that do not want to use GWA.

Performance?
After surfing few websites, I saved 7.9 seconds. It is not amazing but I feel web pages are loading faster, eventhough the seconds saved stat does not increase.

Thought:
Simply put, Google Web Accelerator is a proxy software. You will feel the different when you re-visit a web page. For first time visit website, I do not feel any different.

i strongly use this apllication for China /HK website with normally veryvery very slow to open.

You would feel the significant speed improvement for those country website viewing.
  • I would't recommend anyone else to use this now. Some are experiencing being logged in as other users on forums. (Read: anyone could accidentally log in your account, that is, if you had your login stored on Google's cache)

Google apparently has just made a massive, worldwide security issue with this decision to "cache" (read: share) cookies.

Download/use it at your own risk now.. BTW, I'm no longer using it anymore.

in the FAQ, Google says it will log every website that you requested. Google may use the information for some statistic.

If you highly concern about your privacy, better don't use any software from Google.

  • I have found this article which writes bad about the Google Web Accelerator. I don't claim that it is true but no harm to read.

Yeah, I did not scan that line. :P
The speed improvement now is probably based on the cached web pages only.
  • good. i'll give it a try and see.

how do you know the exact seconds you save, lcf?

hey what about this tip i get from mypdacafe which i had blog here:
