Ever wondering about what tools are used by a tech blogger like me for his blog?

After blogging for years and tried many softwares, here are the softwares I used currently to update my blogs. They are all FREEWARE! (I am cheap stingy blogger)

  • Firefox – one of the best browser. Love its tabbed browsing and various useful browser extensions.
  • Bloglines – free web based feed reader. Helps me to track hundred plus site feeds.
  • ArsClip – handy clipboard tool. It helps me to do multiple copy & paste tasks.
  • PhotoFiltre – free graphic editor. Lightweight and powerful. After installed its screen capture plugin, it is all I need to capture, crop, resize, modify an image!
  • Wordpress – the best open source blog script. I write blog post using its plain(HTML) editor.

So, what are the softwares you used for blogging?

  • Some of my favourite tools are Firefox extensions themselves. For example, the Netcraft and StumbleUpon toolbars. They provide lots of interesting information to blog about.

I'm also an avid W3C standards advocate, and thus I find the Web Developer extension for FF extremely useful to analyse and troubleshoot my webbies.

Graphics wise, I guess The Gimp does what I really need to do to resize and do minor edits on pictures. However, I still prefer Photoshop when I absolutely must use Windows boxes.

Firefox covers the feed stuff too, but sometimes Firefox coundlt read some feed.... dunno why. But still it "eats" on most feeds without any prob.

I think WordPress are for the pros to blog, and Blogger is for starters.

Oh yea, u forgot image hosters, like Flickr & ImagesHack.
  • don't forget, livejournal is for emo kids (j/k). btw i'm on blogger so i use Picasa's Hello to upload images to my blog.

@Azmeen Afandi: I use Photoshop too, but when I want to do something simple and quick, I use PhotoFiltre because PhotoShop will take minutes to startup on my old PC... :|

@CLF: Ya, Firefox read feeds too, but perhaps I have used to Bloglines. I no longer use any free image hoster, I host all images on my own.

@havuk: Yeah, Blogger user should use Picasa Hello. They are best match.

Nice list, I 2nd Firefox, Bloglines and WordPress (though I use Blogger too)
To take screenshots I use MWSnap, to manage the clipboard Clipomatic, and GIMP/InkScape as graphic editors...
