Remove MSN Messenger Side Tabs
Filed in: Microsoft, Tips n Tricks — June 10th, 2005I have show you how to remove advertisement in MSN Messenger. Now I am going to show you how to remove the MSN Messenger side tabs. ![]()

Before: annoying and useless side tabs
After: Tabs gone!
There are two ways to remove the tabs:
- Manually: (advance user only)
Open registry editor(regedit), navigate to “HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ MSNMEssenger \ PerPassportSettings \ random_number“. Change the value of “DisableTabs” to 1 (default is 0). Done.Note: the random_number is a series of numeric. You may get a few differet numbers under “PerPasswordSettings”, change all “DisableTabs” value under them. - Auto: (Recommended)
Download Tab Enabler/Disabler for MSN Messenger 7 from Mess.be. Extract the downloaded zip file, run “ted.exe”(tab disabler).
Enter your MSN Messenger ID (e.g.: yourname@hotmail.com) into the text field, then click “Disable tabs” to remove MSN Messenger side tabs. To restore back the tabs, run the Tab disabler again but click “Enable tabs” instead.
