I have show you how to remove advertisement in MSN Messenger. Now I am going to show you how to remove the MSN Messenger side tabs. :)

Remove MSN Messenger Side Tabs
Before: annoying and useless side tabs
After: Tabs gone!

There are two ways to remove the tabs:

  1. Manually: (advance user only)
Open registry editor(regedit), navigate to “HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ MSNMEssenger \ PerPassportSettings \ random_number“. Change the value of “DisableTabs” to 1 (default is 0). Done.

Note: the random_number is a series of numeric. You may get a few differet numbers under “PerPasswordSettings”, change all “DisableTabs” value under them.
  2. Auto: (Recommended)
Download Tab Enabler/Disabler for MSN Messenger 7 from Mess.be. Extract the downloaded zip file, run “ted.exe”(tab disabler).

    Tab disabler

Enter your MSN Messenger ID (e.g.: yourname@hotmail.com) into the text field, then click “Disable tabs” to remove MSN Messenger side tabs. To restore back the tabs, run the Tab disabler again but click “Enable tabs” instead.

help! i cannot figure out how to delete all unwanted contacts from the privacy section in msn messenger. you delete them from the contact list but they remain listed under privacy.

    tools > options > privacy

they remain and you cannot delete 95% of them. i want them gone!

Its possible to remove and add several of the options of the MSN Mesenger,

    I recomend MESSPATCH from www.mess.be

    or A-PATCH from www.aptch.tk.

The A-PATCH have more options and works with all versions.

Have a look on this link

That sounds fun, but I would prefer to remove just the four advertisement tabs and leave the contacts' and the alerts'. How can I do that?
  • Lovely registry hack. LoL! Neva noticed the controls were in there. Yeay, now can see more of a nick since everyone's nick is normally long. :)

@guy: you said Microsoft Antispyware removed MSN Messenger's ads?! That's ironic!
  • guy
i dont actually know how i did it but i ran microsoft spyware beta and i think i quarantine or deleted the ads on msn and my msn tuns out to be clean (no tabs) no my space link, no ads on the bottom.
imagine the old msn look.clean and functional :)
  • Cool was thinking about to remove those useless tabs, thanks for the proggy!
  • Haha... I thought the same thing too because I didn't do anything to my MSN and how come I do not have tab. Then found out actually I already set that particular option. :)
  • kahsoon
hahaha!! luckily i read sapiensbryan's comment 1st...don't even need 5 second then problem solved.
  • LcF
@SapiensBryan: you are right, I totally forgot the option. Was wondering how come my office's MSN messenger does not has tabs. :P
  • Just to add an alternative, my solution to remove the tab, is:-

Go to Tools > Options > Security > Enable the "This is a shared computer so don't display my tabs" option.

    No app required. :)
