The YouTube developer, Steve, left a comment on my previous entry “Embed YouTube Flash Video Player into Wordpress” and asked for video blogging suggestions.

hey guys! we, the youtube developers, are ecastic about the developments we’re seeing on this page. what do you think we can do better to assist videobloggers in getting their content up? we want to provide a central repository for video content. at the same time, we want to expose these videos through APIs, RSS, embedded HTML, or anything else you can think of.

Liew’s Suggestions to YouTube

In a blogger’s point of view, I have few suggestions for YouTube:

  • Add easy method for bloggers to embed their video clips into blogs. Watermark is fine, link back to YouTube is all right.
  • Do not auto play video clip on load. Imagine a page with five video blog entries that all auto play on loading…
  • Create or introduce a free 3gp to AVI/MOV/MPG video converter. Or, support 3GP upload.
  • How about a YouTube team’s video blog?

Fellow bloggers, what are your suggestions and ideas? I will compile your feedback into a list and send to the YouTube developer team. :)

  • Eh Liew, blogspot knot put this video izzit ?
  • I suggest having a audio adjustable button, like a Quicktime player kind. It's not cool to get shocked with unexpectable loud vid when accessing a someone's site.

What else, have the vid window size adjustable too when posting to blogs?

Have a choice for owners of vids to make it downloadable or for streaming only.

Liew, I'm all done with your code! Got it done, really.
And your suggestion about auto play is absolutely correct. Now I have 2 clips and my page provides a Symphony Orchestra performance!!!!!!

Wonder if we could develope a YouTube uploader or something like that so we can upload to Youtube with a blink of an eye!

You know, I spent more than 6 hours last night to upload a clip of only 27MB [it's limit is 100MB], and only spending another 3 hours, I managed to upload, and wrote a feedback to steve on the problem.

There're many more I wanna say, but i'm in a haste now, so maybe I'll do another comment here later. Thanks a lot for letting us knowing this great service!
  • a cool idea, but how are we going to upload? local gateway or international ?
  • stchatterbox
well, i'm not really good at computer things, but i've tried many many software appliations.

take the example of Imagestation; a image hosting website that allows you to make unlimited photo albums and share with friends. There're 2 options in uploading, one is that you have to browse and upload in their website after you login, or, a very convenient way, download their image uploader and upload your pictures to the site right directly from your PC! IT's actually faster and more convenient and easier!

So if youtube can develope something like that...that'll be cool!
  • Still monitoring this thread. :)

I absolutely love the idea of having a YouTube development team blog. So, the team would really like to involve the community in defining how we develop the product. After all, I think the video blogging community will be a core group putting up refreshing content on a regular basis.

We do have an XML API that hasn't been exposed to the public yet. Through the API, it will be possible to generate tag searches, get details on videos, search by username, etc. Do you think something like that would be useful for the public?

Regarding 3GP, have you tried uploading a 3GP video? I have a Treo650 and I have been able to upload those videos and the encoder has been able to handle those.

Keep up the discussions, we're listening attentively!
  • Maybe you should try out wpr it converts video files to 3gp. And also allowes uploading of 3gp files.
  • Glad to see this being discussed, interesting to see where it goes from here.

well maybe you guys can have people uploadit kinda like FTP but in their own folder that resembles their page or what not...as for the encoding to flash im not sure how you guys would do that..but im sure you would think of something

cause as of right now its taking me 2 hours to upload a video thats only a size of 5mb and it shouldnt take that long
  • sarah
ooh could ya make it easy to link the vids to bebo.....that would be sweet!:D
  • Hey...What if I want to give upload video facility from my blog/site...Is their any API provision for that??? If ANybody have any clue...do get back to me....Thanks in advance
  • LcF
@Amit: No, YouTube does not offer file upload API.
