Guys, thank you for your feedbacks regarding “Notebook under RM4000“.

After consideration and discussed with a few Apple Mac users, I think I want to switch. Ya, switch to Apple Mac OS after using Microsoft Windows for about 10 years.

Why switch?

Apple switch

Apple iBook is cool. Period.

No lah~ As I am turning into a full time blogger, I wish to try something new about computer, too. Apple Mac OS is famous, but I do not know about it. I feel embarrassing. I want to learn about Mac OS! (I still cannot differentiate between “Apple” and “Mac”…)

How to switch?

My main concern is about how do the Mac users survive with ONE button only?! I asked my friend, he told me that he is using his Apple iBook with a TWO button mouse.

Ok, that’s very good answer and it solved 50% of my switching problem.

Apple created a nice site for switcher. Beware! Follows the website will make you switch to Apple! The website introduces Apple Mac OS to you and tell you the 10 reasons of using Mac OS. Each page is filled with positive testimonials. There are many stories of switchers, too.

The Apple iBook G4 12″

Apple iBook Notebook 12.11.33GHz PowerPC G4
512MB memory (DDR333 SDRAM)
12.1-inch TFT Display
ATI Mobility Radeon 9550
32MB DDR video memory
40GB Ultra ATA hard drive
Combo Drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW)

Built-in AirPort Extreme
Built-in Bluetooth 2.0+EDR

Price: RM3999

I was told that this is standard fixed price by Apple. So, I probably hope to get a free earphone only lah~ (Please, inform me if you know any shop selling at cheaper price!)

I think the price is reasonable. Though there are few other competitive PC notebook models, but I will learn more from a Apple iBook. It worths the extra bucks for something totally new to me.

Where to buy?

Since it is standard price, buy from any place also the same. I probably will go to Kuala Lumpur at September and bring one Apple iBook back. :)

  • Dude, you gotta switch! I personaly don't have one, but I use an iMac nearly everyother day if not every day (a friend has one).
The OSX Os is GREAT! I love the style...

Been a linux user for a long time and switched to OSX a few years back. For a Unix user, the switch is painless. Many OSX users don't really harness the power of its unix roots but its there if you want to learn. e.g. As I am ont the road a lot I access the internet from various places and sending mail can be a chore as various means of blocking spam means that legitimate users are also blocked. On my machine I run my own SMPT server and can surf in whatever country I am in via GPRS. However many ISP's are blocking SMPT deliveries from dynamic addresses.

  • Mac OS? no thanks, their software is costly for a poor jobless guy like me. I rather stay with FreeBSD and GNU/Linux, their software is free, upgradable and reliable.
  • you could use darwin instead of mac os, and use all the software that you can commonly found in freebsd.
  • mypapit,

Mac OS X comes with the Mac you buy, so it is effectively part of the deal. And you do not need to buy costly commercial software afterwards. It runs many xBSD and Linux apps, console or X11. It is just a matter of recompile - check out Fink, Darwinport or Gentoo for Mac. There are also lots of open source Cocoa/Carbon apps. I bought my iBook 2 1/2 years ago, and I still have not had a need to spend more money on commercial software.
  • Good choice :)
  • Yeah! Mac is cool! But I prefer GNU/Linux :) Why not give GNU/Linux a try. Make your Windows XP with GNU/Linux dual boot.

PS: Do you know www.liewcf.com not display well on GNU/Linux firefox.
  • LcF
Jlchannel: I tried GNU/Linux before, was not quite enjoying. I will try it again on my NEXT PC.

GNU/Linux firefox is different than windows firefox?!
