While I yet decide on the domain name for my new Apple blog, I came accross Apple Copyright and Trademark Guidelines.

9. Domain Names: You may not use an identical or virtually identical Apple trademark as a second level domain name.

Does it means that I cannot use any domain name with “apple” or “mac” word? However, I see many websites with the the words in their domain names…

Currently, the poll result is 50/50. Half voted for AppleBeginner.com, another half voted for Mac-Switcher.com.

I send an email to Apple.com to ask about the domain name trademark issue. While waiting for the reply, maybe I need to think for other names as backup. Suggestions?

I doubt Apple will reply my email. It has been two days.
Well, I actually registered first before ask you guys vote for it. :)
  • LowEndMac.com is a very famous Mac site, and they've been operating for many years...

I think there should be no problem with Mac word.

Since you've already contact them it's worth to wait the response.

BTW, I suggest you not to mention whatever domain name you have in mind, coz other people will register it first.. just my 2 cents

Jackdaw: oh I see. Well, MacSwitcher was my first choice but it is not available. Too bad.
  • Jackdaw
Typo error. Meant to type 'MacSwitcher' instead of "MatSwitcher'. In the case of 'MacSwitcher', being one-word will not be subjected to affiliation to Mac domain name.
  • Mac does not really mean its a name on the rue sense. Usually it is a suffix to mean 'son of'.
  • LcF
we try to avoid numeric in domain names because it make confuse when we speak it to others. Why "Mat" ?
  • Jackdaw
Then how about epal4beginner or MatSwitcher instead.
  • LcF
I avoid to make the site become too personal, that include the domain name.
  • how about: lcfapp
    LiewCF's Apple Blog
  • worst come to worst just open a new category in this blog lor
  • maybe u should try www.epal.com or www.ping-quo.com see how they react to this??
  • it means you may not use APPLE, or IPOD, or OSX, or TIGER, or any other direct copies, however adding another word to this means that it is not a direct copy, and the restriction does not apply to these
  • but apple is really fruits.

    duriantoapple.com

Mac is also a name, macdonald will sue liew then.
  • so, where's your ibook?
  • I believe you can use the "mac" name but not apple. Because "mac" is their OS and Apple is a registered company. If you use "Apple" visitors might think you affiliate with them.
