Dell logoDell is going to stop free shipping of computers in U.S. at October 10, 2005.

Starting on October 10, Dell's free shipping offer on basic models will apply only to people willing to pick up their computers at the post office, said Jennifer Davis, spokeswoman for Dell's U.S. consumer business. Customers will have to pay extra for home delivery.

Thought

I read an article that Dell CEO never put home consumers as Dell's main business target, Dell always put first priority to corporate customers. I wasn't believe it, but I start to believe it now.

I don't think Dell will stop free delivery in Malaysia soon. Will you pick up your computer at post office? Oh. My brother just ordered a Dell notebook, he is waiting for it impatiently. :)

one of the reason dell is success because of that free thingy
  • Did they shoot themselves in the foot then?

If they do it for US, pretty soon I think it will apply here in Malaysia too. :(
  • Dell never had free delivery in the first place in Malaysia...
Those free delivery in Malaysia only applies to special promotional items.

Dell never had free delivery, just like what n305er said. The standard fee for delivery in West Msia is RM75 for all items whether big or small. Only during promotion periods will they provide free delivery, just like those free upgrades/additional hardware/free-mouse Dell often offers.

    Btw, it's "impatiently" :)

Dell often gives the free delivery, right?

    Thank you, Seige.
