In R&D, any possibilities is welcome to go through experimentation. I dun think MS is at their best in giving their client the best. So, no matter how wide a company has, it still has its own limitation on the so-called 'FREEDOM'. Heyy, you can blame the company for seeking its own maximum profits right? Restriction in any form in any lab, in any field, is impeding on the any investment to achieve the most. I find it strange why this guy was not allowed to explore all that he can, with computers at MS? MS always hv an option to restrict the code to be released in public domain, y this guy is not allowed to push his limit? Is this the reason that cause MS products to be buggy? Or he was hired not to produce result with linux, so that MS can tell the world that linux sux? Or did he dig too deep in MS products and saw the flaws? or MS worried that he might release the code privately and ms just got to restrict him? This also show that politics within MS is eating into what I think MS can do more. Lets see how their release in 2006 turns out.
