Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router Death, Again

Just two weeks after retrieving my Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router, it is death again! I am back to wired connection, again.

After the last lesson, I dare not to leave the wireless router turned on 24/7. It did get a few hours off per day. But still… Is it a curse?

My two cents

Well, you REALLY need a good cooling system for Linksys’ “super hot” power adapter. I guess I need to get a portable electric fan specially for the power adapter.

@Pinvader: the router itself is good, but you need to keep the power adapter cool.

How is your linksys router performance now? My boss plan to buy one for home use. Since you got it, do you think I should go for Linksys? or other brand?

Linksys router is great! Only the power adapter gave me the problem. Anyway, it is working all right now after the 2nd replacement. :)

I recommend linksys router for home and office use. I have no experience with DLink or 3Com. However, did a search of DLink router, you will discover many people complain about the DLink's connectivity problems.

mine is linksys. Netgear looks sexy but my netgear router spoiled before I use it for the first time... :(

whatever you buy i would advise to stay away from aztech adsl305ew. i'm using it and i hate this router!

I have a linksys WRT54G wireless router. I got it from US. It has power adapter which works with 120V but here in India we need 240V. One mistake I did was without chkg the req i connected it to wall si i guess i have burnt the power adapter and may be wireless router also. I want to know if I get 240V power adapter with output same as wireless router req will it work?

@ravi: a 240v power adapter will work if the output power is same as the 120v power adapter. however, it will not work if the router is burnt.

Hello people,

I have many WRT54Gs and WAP54Gs and haven't got any problems with adaptors what so ever. Maybe the American 115 Volt adapters suck because here we have 230 Volt adapters (cause the Netherlands supplies like every other European Country 230 Volts). What you can do is buy a seperate 12 volt adaptor that supports a current of 1 Ampere.

Also one other thing. NEVER USE ADAPTORS WITH A DIFFRENT INPUT VOLTAGE THEN YOUR COUNTRY IS SUPPLYING!!!

Most adaptors are just converting the voltage by a factor which means if you put 240 Volts on a 120 Volts adaptor it will output 24 Volts instead of 12 Volts. Also putting 120 Volts on a 240 Volts adaptor is dangerous because then the adaptor will only output 6 volts which causes the device connected to it requiring twice the current the adaptor can supply.

Solution to the problem is buying an 12 volt adaptor that supports the input current your Country supplies. Also make sure you buy an adaptor that can supply enough current. For a Linksys WRT54G I suggest you to buy a 12 Volt/ 1 Ampere adaptor. MAKE SURE YOU GET DC OUTPUT AND NOT AC OUTPUT!
