Quick Guide to Windows Vista File System

windows vista file system CNET published a quick guide to the new file system of Windows Vista.

In the article, it introduces the new features of Windows Vista file system such as system wide file search, new Windows Explorer, file organization, file tagging, and virtual folders.

Overall, the new features are very powerful. But existing Windows XP uses might need to take some times to learn how to utilize the new features. I won’t be surprised if a user do not know where to find his/her files.

P.S. Apple’s Mac OS X has similar features years ago and it is simpler to use.

Hi used Windows Vista Beta 2 before. You know what, i really don't like it.
Why? You see, first there are many limitations of vista.
Here are some :
-Many software/game incapability
-Slower speed
-Lots of bugs (I don't know about the full release one)
-There are too many navigation to go through
For example: The control panel. There are so many words.
-Limitations for programmer/computer developer

So, do think twice when buying Windows Vista.
If I am wrong, do correct me :D

I don't understand what you meant by slower speed? You mean it takes up a lot of processing power? or a lot of RAM memory?

I had previewed Vista at Microsoft M'sia early this year. Lots of nice animation, similar to Mac. Back then, it is indeed slow, just starting to load into the operating system took more than ~7 minutes.

we really need a very high-end computer to run Windows Vista.

Bear tried Vista beta. It gave bear virtigo. Bear stick with on XP for work fedora for fun.

Bear thinks MS Vista can be rename as MS Virtigo.

i see.. so i guess it's better to stick to XP till technology advances for the high-end computer systems of today becomes commercialised..

Windows XP wasn't even done. I'll try Vista in 5 years when I get it with a new system. Whenever Microsoft tries plugging their holes things get even more messy. My question, how is Vista going to help anyone. If you use it in a business there will be signifigant problems, just like XP is STILL not fit for small business and enterprises aren't using it either. Vista is realeased but still WAY off in the future. Using Vista now is like running Linux, you better be prepared for some down time if you are really trying to accomplish something.

Just purchased a new computer with VISTA. If I new what I was getting into, I would have spent the extra $$$ and had XP-Pro installed. If you are a GUI person then maybe this is for you. If you like ease of finding where you have saved files to - then VISTA is NOT for you. I told our IT guy last week if he needed a Guinea pig to start using VISTA I would volunteer. After another weekend of pulling what little hair I have left out, using VISTA, I have told him to find another Guinea Pig.

LcF: Yes - but for me it still seems much easier to use the format in the File Tree that XP uses than Vista.

I'll weigh in on this gang. After using multiple versions of windows over the years, Vista has GOT to be the biggest piece of crap to come down the pike. It's not user friendly at all -- and my biggest beef is the file system, which they seem to have changed cosmetically just for the sake of changing it. It's far less functional than previous versions -- you cannot do a simple search for a file without jumping through all sorts of hoops first, and when you click the 'help' files for advice on quicker searches, all it gives is a nice PR-type document on all the cool stuff Vista 'can' do -- but not a shred of help on 'how' to do it. They really didn't put much thought at all into the user experience with this.

Unless you have a LOT of time on your hands to learn an entire new operating system (which is no more functional really than previous versions of windows...they just moved stuff around and hid half the crap so you have to look harder for it), then stick with XP..

Thunderheart - I couldn't have said it better. Just told the wife today - If I purchase a new computer - I will pay extra for the XP Pro operating system. For a “new-user” that has never used the XP operating system - this new VISTA may be just the ticket.

Am using Vista from the beta1.. i dint feel any of this .. don say it takes 7 mins to load.. it takes roughly 69-74 secs to load.. in 512 MB ram and 2.4 processor.. the same Xp loads in 56-63 secs.. i don thnk it takes much time.. and about the filesystem its not tat jus for sake there asr lots of funciotaliteis like encryption.. EFS.. locking provided more security.. dont say its for sake..

By the animation is very cool.. after tat.. there are lots and lots.. have u guys tried poerboster .. tried parental control.. first try vista full functional thn speak . don speak jus for sake.

by the Beta 2 is really having lots of bugs.. try from RC1.. very stable.. now try the relaese.. it is very very stble to work with..

if u have 256 mb ram.. if not an developwr.. vista Rocks!!

Like I posted earlier - Some people will love VISTA. Geek, if you are using 256 mb, I am very surprised. Our VISTA is on 3.? dual processor with 2 GB of ram and on start-up it is sluggish occasionally. This does not bother me. I just don't care how the file system is set-up. That is the reason there are many different OS available. NO company will ever make an OS that everyone will love.
