Deja Vu, movie reviewThe following movie review is written by HuiXin (Bear the Pooh)

You might have heard about the song “Deja vu” by Beyonce Knowles, but no, I am not going to talk about the song. This is the movie, Deja Vu.

The term “déjà vu” (French for “already seen”, also called paramnesia) describes the experience of feeling that one has witnessed or experienced a new situation previously. I am sure this is a familar mysterious feeling to most of you. Sometimes when I experience it, I really cant’t tell whether it really happened or it’s only my illusion. It freaks me out sometimes.

Synopsis

Deja Vu

This is an action-thriller movie from producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott, written by Terry Rossio & Bill Marsilii.

The movie started with a scene of happy people preparing to board the New Orleans Ferry. But tragedy happened when the bomb on board planted by a psychotic patriot set off, and resulted 543 casualties. Not a very pleasant way starting I must say. Doug Carl (DENZEL WASHINGTON), an agent of ATF, is assigned to recover the evidence of the after bombing, but he is further involved in the investigation of the crime when he knew more things could actually have been done.

During the process of investigations, he discovered what most people believe is only in their heads is actually something far more powerful. There is actually a machine that allows them to look back to the past in ‘live’ form, they even attempted to send a warning note through the machine from the present to past, which has also led Doug to a journey of the past to save hundreds of innocent lives. I suggest you to pay extra attention to the scene which they explain how they use energy to go back to the past.

Did he succeed in stopping the explosion by sending himself back to the past? Would he live in the end? The ending of the movie is quite unpredictable, but I shall not be a spoiler here. You gotta watch it yourself! The main actress in the movie looks remarkably like Halle Berry, but, I have not seen her in other movies though.

If you have always been a fan of Denzel Washington, you have probably also watched his classic movies like Crimson Tide, Remember The Titans, Training Day and Man On Fire. As always, Denzel Washington is always the hero in the movie. In my opinion, although his role in this movie is still quite “Denzel” style, but the storyline of this movie worth some stars. There is a phrase in this movie that impressed me a lot, which is, a patriot is always another country’s terrorist or something like that. Come to think about it, it is really true, isn’t it? Otherwise why would wars, bombings, happen everywhere?

If given a chance, would you be brave enough to go back to the past to turn back the time? Could fate really be changed? Would you still like how you turn out many years from now?
