Mom, I Won $9000 from Akademi Fantasia!

Akademi Fantasia SMS messageFew days ago, I received an SMS message saying that I had won the cash prize of $9000MYR from Akademi Fantasia (a popular TV program in Malaysia). The SMS message asked me to call an Indonesia phone number(+62) to redeem my prize.

Without thinking twice, I know it is a fake message. I never watched the TV program nor I joined any SMS contest. The same cheating method had been publishing on the newspaper before.

Well, I am glad that I have been picked. ;)

how exactly do they scam? is the number like $50 per min/call?
  • Now that malaysia have the numbers registered for all prepaid. they are outsourcing to another country
  • Things like this must be completely eliminated. It's not healthy to the community and country.
  • hoho, the same here in China! many people got trapped.
  • i already WON it last year sept! hahaha
  • Congrats man..hehe. How it work ar? I mean whats the benefit to them sending the msg? I'm not trying to do..just asking la..hehe

I know Maybank ATM mcs have notices to caution against the AF4 scam. Why is it at the ATM mcs? Is it telling you not to withdraw any cash for this scam? Does this scheme work like the Nigerian letter scam where they ask you to gradually extend them more and more advance "administrative charges" till you go broke? The public should be educated not just "warned" otherwise they will take it lightly.
  • Huhuh..i got exactly the same message..

There are many scam around. Somehow greed get's people brain in illogical mode. Being a logical and somewhat sceptical persona, I've too been tempted by pyramid schemes.

I'm pretty sure, those who need funds to bail them out of financial pressure will have a higher chance of falling for such scam.

You can read more about scam on my site at http://my.personalmoneytips.com/2007/scams-bewa...
  • If you dont pay they cant do anything but get mad at you.
  • You can also see warning notes near ATM machines and bank doors to alert everyone not to fall into such scam
  • ah.... no one ever send me such message... i feel so left out!!1 damn!!! "P
  • i already had the same situation. But,i know that is scam. Why so many people are always been cheated by this stupidity?Maybe when we talk about money or perhaps a better known "easy money",their eyes and brain had been shutdown!
  • They will start the "Business" When you call them. The luring process start there. If anyone receive this kind of message just ignore it like Liew did. If you are a winner, it is them that should be calling you not the other way. Anyway, Your phone number is somewhat popular Liew...?? ;-)
