That is kinda harsh to say that all sites sell themselves to advertisers. Sites, good ones, draw the traffic and in turn the ad dollars, how else would a site sustain itself otherwise? No readers would be willing to pay. Of course there are limits, once crossed, the web users would not be very forgiving – lost traffic, lost income. Its a balance media owners will have to decide on

I thought so earlier too, but changed my mind after speaking to my sister who is currently undergoing her internship at CinemaOnline.

Maybe I should just say that some companies do not look as BIG and successful and majestic as they appear online, and that may be the main reason behind the ads — but I’m not saying CinemaOnline isn’t successful.

Perhaps we should not jump to the conclusion that companies that publish ads on their websites are “sold-out” or “sacrifice anything for money” — look st The Star Online. It’s successful and yet publish ads

This is not the first time the ads appear on Cinema Online’s site, as it was placed there once last year.

To add on to what Paul Tan had said, it’s ads caused some problems to the site, in which I found out that in Internet Explorer there is no problem (someone please clarify this). This only happens when you’re using Firefox to browse the site. They should optimize the site for both browsers at the same time.

It’s pretty sad because I’m a firefox user, and I use the site often to check the ‘Coming Soon’ list of movies.

This is a form of advertising called a site takeover or something, by local web advertising firm Innity Sdn Bhd.

Their creative team seems to be somewhat incompetent, not knowing how to do layering of Flash properly, with their expandable ads causing problems for alot of their sites. Their ads on motortrader.com.my often do not roll up properly after expanding, thus rending all the navigation links that was under it unaccessible.

The last Digi site takeover I knew of was of i-sinchew.com.

Don’t you think Digi paid high advertising dollars or sponsorship for this? Strategic move I would say as everyone nowadays is moving into online advertising space plus their target market is the young crowd who watches movies anyway. Plus, extra money for CinemaOnline wouldn’t hurt.
