I bought a new PC. It is powered by Intel Core2Duo CPU and Windows Vista operating system. My last desktop computer was a Pentium III 450MHz box.

Vista Box

Here is the computer specs:

  • Intel Core2Duo E6400 (2.13GHz) CPU
  • Asus P5B-Plus Vista Edition motherboard
  • 2GB DDR2 800MHz memory
  • 320GB SATA2 hard drive
  • Asus 7900 GS 256MB video card
  • iCute casing with 450watt power supply
  • Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
  • Microsoft Office 2007 Home & Student
  • 2nd hand Logitech wireless keybaord & mouse

Total cost: RM4600+ (expensive, but that’s what you get in a small town)

I wanted to get the Asus P5B Premium Vista Edition with a very cool ScreenDuo second display panel, but the dealer cannot get the stock. Too bad. You noticed that I get the used wireless keyboard & mouse. I like it because wireless and support Mac. I got them for RM90.

The Dell 24-inch Widescreen UltraSharp LCD Monitor that I ordered last week will be arriving tomorrow. I will setup the Vista box then, keep tuned for the updates! :)

  • Honestly, I do not recommend anyone to grab this latest version of windows. It is very unstable currently. It needs more update and patches.

Anyway, how many marks you get for the index?
  • icute? cool... i wish you can upload some of your pc pics once you have setup all of them.
  • walauwei....great man. i wish i can have it. my PC already 3 years old.
  • I believe Vista is the most stable of the Windows operating systems. It's likely that there's drivers conflict or perhaps your hardware isn't powerful enough to accommodate the new OS. Best thing to do is to purchase new system rather than upgrade parts like what Liew did. I think that's what I am going to do too.
  • Hi Liew,

I didnt know you had such an old PC for so long ! It's right about time you upgraded. :)
  • yalor...i thought u have high end pc...with all those blogging and everything..looks like mine is a little bit faster than u :-) thinking of buying new laptop but not enough budget yet la...

@DarrinW: I swithced to Mac since end of 2005
  • Why have you gone for Windows machine after using a Mac? Most People who use Mac never switch to windows.. So what prompted you to do that?
  • First time here, very nice site Liew! I see that you're one of the first Malaysian full time blogger eh? Sabahan here. Full support to you buddy!

New computer.. congrats.. it cost alot but you deserve it since you work hard for your blog, don't you. 24 inch screen.. make it double! hehe. I'll be drooling all over the table if my dad bought me that.

  • Walao! It's my dream to own such super computer, omg
  • U should buy 2 pcs of 160GB hardisk rather than 1 320GB hardisk...

And for your power supply, the built in Icute PSU is very not so durable...
U should get a true active power supply such as cooler master, antec and etc because your graphic card is quite power consumption.

@Shivaranjan: I will use both Mac and Vista :)

@Bing: thanks for visiting. I hope you enjoy reading this blog.

@didi: yeah, there still many hardware improvement spaces but I have to tolerate to my budget.
  • gaman, my computer got 4.0 for the index in windows vista. I think this mark is quite ok. And, if it really likes what you said, I really wonder how those computers below 4.0 can survive.
  • nice pc
    i love its keyboard
  • 2G Ram is standard only right? for vista... mostly heard people said 4G only enough for heavy duty like us
  • LcF
kvin: i will upgrade RAM if 2GB is not enough
  • Why don't you get the PC from Low Yat Plaza where it should cost much lower?
  • LcF
@Jessica: because I stay in Johor. If buy PC from KL, it would be troublesome to claim warranty.
  • office 2007 home and student? how much is that? what does it include?
  • LcF
Wahlau.NET: RM390 (OEM), include Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and OneNote
  • nice rig dude! love the LCD!! anyway, ur power supply might be a problem.. as ur other hardware is kinda high end ones..
  • Douglas
RM4600 got include the LCD cost or not ?
  • LcF
    @Douglas: Exclude. I bought a Dell 24" LCD monitor at RM1,999.
  • Douglas
