It is official! The SPA website by Malaysia government! The website URL is SPA.GOV.MY. “gov.my” is the country coded second level domain which only applicable to Malaysia government organizations.

But, you will be disappointed if you are expecting for SPA services from Malaysia government (are you ok?!). SPA is the initials of “Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Awam”, which is “Public Service Commission” in English. So, it is not related to spa at all.

My two cents

I discovered the website on Alexa top 100 Malaysia sites. I was shocked when I read the site title. Malaysia government suppose to know the meaning of “SPA” in English but they still use it in the official logo…

I fail to see any problem here.

I doubt people billions of people are shocked to discover apple.com sells computers instead of REAL apple.com (and that's registered under TLD).

Or people take 'stars' meaning literally in http://www.stars.gov.sg/
  • SPA - it is the Number 1 result in Google for the word spa

maybe they should re title their pages as
    SPA- Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Awam
  • I agree with hasrul... afterall, it is pronounced "es-pee-aye", not directly "spa". And I guess many Malaysians are already aware of that acronym when it is related to the goverment...
  • Wow, now it makes sense why SPA.gov.my is the most popular government-owned website in Malaysia. Most clueless (read: FOREIGN TOURISTS) visitors must be looking for "spa in Malaysia". And all these weeks, I thought Malaysians are very career-centric and go to this site to get long-term and stable career with this public service government agency or in the overall government institution.

Thanks Rustum for alerting us about Google. Now, let's challenge all Internet Super Marketers including Fione Tan, Patrick Chan, Shaun Tan, Dr Ifran Khairi etc. to beat SPA for the "spa" keyword in Google.. HAHA...

BTW Liew, you must be a fan of "spa". I almost never understood what you meant earlier just by looking at your post headline. (that's because most "spas" centres aren't that popular for Muslim men)
