Gmail Increase Maximum Attachment Size
Filed in: Google — June 1st, 2007
While Gmail web mail space is increasing continuously (currently, 2.8GB), Google decided to increase the maximum email attachment size as well.
The new maximum email attachment size allowed is 20MB (previously, 10MB). The 20Mb is the sum of email’s text message and the encoded attachment.
Although Gmail can send and receive email size at 20MB, but not many webmail services support the attachment size. The email you send will be bounced back if the receiver’s email service has smaller attachment limit.
If that’s the case, Google ask you to invite them to Gmail. What a good tactic to increase Gmail users!
My two cents
Gmail is the only webmail service I am using, because of its simple interface (or a better Gmail?) and integrated with other Google services. With the increase attachment size, Gmail is now a better and free online storage (Gspace)
Currently, the other two popular webmail services, Hotmail and Yahoo Mail, only support mail attachment size up to 10MB. Since they increased the webmail size after Gmail, I believe they will increase the maximum email attachment size soon as well. Let’s see.
