Click Ads to Support Your Blog?

I came across a poor blogger asking community members to visit his blog and click on the advertisements on his blog, especially the Advertlets and Nuffnang ads.

Here is his announcement with title “Please support my blog!”:

Please give me some support! If can every time you visit my blog please click on the advertisment! The advertlets and nuffnangs! I earn from every click I get from you guys! Thanks!

I am not sure how many kind people helped him by clicking the ads. Based on his visitor counter which read 704, I guess he probably get a few bucks but it is too little to be able to cash the money.

How I wish I could tell him that it just doesn’t work. None of the rich bloggers ask their readers to support them by clicking the ads. Furthermore, such act is disallowed by any Cost-Per-Click (CPC) program.

Google AdSense, the greatest CPC program in the world, is known to banning publishers who encourage clicks on CPC ads without mercy.

Recently, both Advertlets and Nuffnang introduced CPC ads. I am curious to know how effective they are to detect fraud clicks, and how strict they are to those “support-me” publishers.

Do you have friends playing the click-n-pay game? Do they get caught?

  • When I read this entry, I felt kinda it kinda funny but come to think of it, I can understand why they are doing these. Desperation to earn the quick bucks pushes them into doing such foolish things, IMHO, content is king is the only way. With good content, you should revenue from any ad network.
  • What seems to be a good idea is for bloggers to ask for small PayPal donations if they enjoy a post. I personally have tried no money making techniques up to this point, but I may do something similar to this before Adsense and the like.
  • Traffic before Monetization.... funny how so few ppl realize that
  • blogjunkie
hehe I got caught before. me and a few friends all clicked each other's ads. for a while we got good payouts. then one of us complain he not making money. then I also not making money. then I got warning letter :oP

the Google knows... and I learnt my lesson. another lesson worth learning - making money blogging is NOT EASY!

P.S. you didn't hear the story from me.
  • I've seen better alternative to get money support from visitor. You can put some 'If you like this post, buy me some ...'. John Chow use this method on his blog. ;D
  • liew, your link at "both Advertlets and Nuffnang introduced CPC ads" is not working. I would like to know why you drop these 2 CPC ?

  • Soooo desperate and so naive. Please don't do that. It's stupid.
  • Well I have a friend who uses Google ads and he programs these bots who will go in and click on the ads. It has worked for him well and he has earned quite a lot, still not caught yet.
  • I have seen one blogger posted the MSN message with another blogger talking about clicking each other ads. These juvenile actions are their own doom. (no, they are not kids but working adults)

That's why I only put banner ads.
  • Well, if he / she would bother to brush up his / her grammer first, I might consider clicking it. LOL!
  • I know the feeling of a new blogger, especially those who do it on full time basic. I am a new Malaysian blogger too. You may visit my site www.LawEddie.com for leagl tips and others.

Hi Liew, I have just visited Kluang and have written something about Kluang. You may want to have a look.

  • as an advertiser in Google Adsense program - it pains me that some people are taking us the advertisers for a ride

anyway as an advertiser i will rein or control or even cancel my ad spending if i see a lot of funny clicks from any particular website i advertise over a period of time

so actually the owner of such websites will not win

actually they should be very happy -
    - they are getting free money for doing what they enjoy doing - blogging
    - so i think i should be keep on putting in good content and they will be rewarded one way or the other
  • Yup...i know at least 2 playing this trick in broad daylight..

I know one of the companies does have a measure to detect irregular "activities"
  • actually, other than this, i feel sad to see bloggers surfing high and low, copying tonnes of contents from overseas site, putting into their own, and never list any link to the original content creaters.
  • expected lor if you are starting such a company...there are sure others out there who tries to find loophole
  • I got banned from adsense for quite some time already...
  • One of my friend suggested that, if you dislike a person, then you just mass-click on the person's ads.
I wonder how is he/she going to explain to the advertiser.
  • I was banned from Adsense due to click that came from same IP add.. my friends supoorted me that every day they click my ads.. bad huh?
  • Yeah, one of my friends tried to click on his Google Ads a bunch a times from different computers a few years back. Needless to say, he got caught and regrets ever doing that (it was amazing how quickly they caught on :P).

Doing this is not worth it. The cost (lost money) of you & your site getting banned is far greater than what you'll ever make trying to play the click game.
  • i guest soon nuffnang and advertlets will bann this kind of blogger...
  • it is actually an idea from one who desperate to make money online. they don't even think about the good and bad !! if he/she are Malaysian, I'm really disappointed to hear that..
  • Jack
Never tell people what is your blog or website that make money.
  • "...I was banned from Adsense due to click that came from same IP add.. my friends supoorted me that every day they click my ads.. bad huh?"

One of the ways you can keep your account in good standing when you accidentally self click or know of someone who clicked your ads is to communicate openly with Adsense. I believe Google appreciates transparency on the Publisher's part.
  • I still believe the "action of clicking on ads" should remain as intended. This is to be fair to advertisers, genuine prospects and publishers. My 2 cents worth of thoughts.
  • Begging for clicks does such a disservice to your advertisers. They will not be impressed by just getting lots of click through traffic if none of them can be converted into buyers...
  • :) - yup..when desperate come ..then people would start thinking about how to make it QUICK! agree with hong keat. contents is king. publish good quality contents to generate more visitors. people will click wih no need to ask to do so...they click on what they interest...base on contents.:) but still, when despearate..people will do anything! hope hes not joining all those quick rich scams outside there!
    :)
  • It is a waste of effort, and illegal too.
