Another popular blogger platform actually hired a reputable company to do paid translation for major languages to ensure quality and consistency. Even if a single person translates all the strings, without proper QC done, we would never know if the strings are correct, follows convention or even subscribes to popular usage. All said, I dont think wordpress will ever pay for translations, but what the users can do, other than volunteering for translation is that to do their own checks.
