P1 W1max Wimax Plans Promotion

Packet One has launched its WIMAX service, P1 w1max, in Malaysia and extended the plan promotion to December 31st, 2008. During the promotion period, the WIMAX modem (worth RM999) is free for each subscribers.

Also, you save RM10 less on monthly charge for 2.4Mbps plan. Business plans are enjoying the same charges as Personal plans.

I tested the P1 W1MAX connection during the last PC Fair and it was good. Of course, it was not a real life test. An early P1 W1MAX tester complained about the stability of the Internet connection.

My two cents

Stability of the Internet connection is a critical issue for me. I rather have a stable connection with slower speed than an unstable connection with fast speed.

I don’t think many current Streamyx subscribers will switch to P1 W1MAX. When price and speed are similar, the stability of the connection makes the decision. Wired connection is always more stable than wireless connection.

WIMAX is good if you are always traveling around in the town and need a fast connection at any corner. For that, P1 still need to expand their coverage to even more areas.

Yes, stability is an important issue. That is the reason I did not continue with their service. Anyone knows why the on and off internet connection happens? I got annoyed every time I tried to connect in the wee morning and NO CONNECTION!

What are the wireless broadband available in Kluang? I went to Telekom before Raya and they told me Kluang is not in the coveraga area yet.

P1 Wimax offer another alternate options to all broadband users. The reputation of Streamyx as a sole broadband provider will be abolished, and consumers will definitely rethink of getting Streamyx. As for myself, I'm seriously considering changing my Streamyz to another broadband provider because their service doesn't live up it's reputation, sad to say...

hmm if i were to switch i'd look at the better downlink speed but for now it is just way too expensive for me. i'll stick to my maxis broadband for now - even though it's not -that- cheap either and very unstable in KL (amazingly stable here in my hometown kuala kangsar, has not disconnect once in 4 days now, amazing!)

not to make this too political, i believe malaysian in general deserve more from the gov, maybe it is time we demand an end to the monopoly of the last mile by telekom.

I've been living in australia (studying) for 2 years now, and in a country with 2 million population, they have as many as 20 ISPs, switching companies is a matter of days, service is good, and my bittorrent download speed for a 1.5mb like is 150kbps! yes, 150kbps, took me 3 hrs to download a 700MB movie.

the best part is, we can bundle the internet with the phone line - no monthly phone rental.

It's good to see some option although they are not yet establish in terms of coverage, stability and fees. This signal a better future for heavy internet users in Malaysia. I hope it can be cheaper, more reliable, faster and available at my place in JB...

Im considering to change my Streamyx too.. Just sick of it.. but there's no other good choice. I am really looking to this P1 wimax.

Tired of Streamyx 1MB (but only capped high at 500 - 600kbps - its rare btw),
most of the time (99.5%)... I only got at 400kbps (seems like mine was 512kb package only!). Plus minus with phone rental line , its still considered not cheap btw.. but i don't have any choice.

What make me more sad is.. They (GOV), do nothing! since years ago.. just talk talk c0ck talk rubbish talk, nonsense talk again and again.

Anyone heard any news from other Wimax provider like Redtone?

I am quite satisfied with my Streamyx line, probably because I stay in a landed property with exclusive line from USM. Read that apartment and condominium dwellers need to share line and this slows down the bandwidth. I wonder if this is true.

For home use, I will still go for streamyx. As LCF said, more stable.
For mobility, I will go for Maxis GPRS, as long as there is 012 coverage, the internet connection is available.

P1 sounds good, but still pricey. The reasonable cost shall be way lower.

Anyway, I am still using dial-up at home while there is real good one that suite me.

P1 WiMax should be better in term of speed, but they're extremely less coverage. I should be thinking twice to subscribe. Streamyx may be my better choice for now, it's cheaper btw.

However, if the coverage is widen, i'm pretty sure that this will be conquer the whole Malaysia.

I guess P1 WiMax have not much choice with the price, they are still new in the market and relatively small if you compare them to maxis and telecom... like giant.. against ants. P1 definately cannot afford to create pricewar.. Saying so, i think their price will not be any cheaper for time being. I also kinda like the cube box model, but it bulky to take around. Wonder if they are coming out with the USB version sooner...

Streamyx sux.... big time in my area and also, i heard and read up from blog... maxis or celcom broadband are worst... I m seriously consider P1WiMAX when the roll out at my place...

I got questions:
Who provide wimax connection to international link? What is the speed?
How many user they have now? What is the link speed ratio per user? Anyone have the number?

Cos when more user use, the slower it's can be. So current test with a few user won't be the same as in the future with more user use it.

Thinks before you throw away what you use now.

WiMax stands for Worldwide Interoperatability of Microwave Access, this is what was printed on the flier.
My friends and relative told me that using microwave oven can cause cancer. I wonder.....will it be the same if using P1 WiMax? The modem given is not wireless so when surfing the internet the modem are hooked to the computer. This means it is close to the user.
In long terms, will it cause cancer?
