A Month with Honda City 2009

My first car, the new Honda City 2009, arrived just before Chinese New Year 2009. It has been over a month now and it has done its first service.

Here is it, my very first car — Honda City 2009. I love its “transformer-like” front.

Honda City 2009

The lucky number

I bid the license plate for RM1,000. The lucky number is chosen by my dad, but It sounds “One Night One Night” in English or “Play Milk Play Milk” in Chinese… :P

Talking about the lucky number, my friend bought the number at 4D for over a month and still no luck and started blaming me, the owner. Frankly speaking, even I myself don’t think the number will strike 4D!

Got a car? Time to spend more!

When you buy a car, you are not only spending on the car price but also more. I spend RM350 to install an additional security brake lock. RM120 for the interior carpet. Plus, RM750 to tint my car.

I would spend RM85 to install the door visor. Modulo full bodykit package? Hmm.. Maybe next time. I don’t think it is wise to spend RM5K to make your Honda City look slightly different. If there is a cheaper bodykit, I might consider again.

First car driving in 10 years

I didn’t really drive it around during Chinese New Year. As you might have already known, I have not driven a car for over 10 years since I got my driving license! I merely practiced 2 or 3 lessons (my elder brother was my trainer) in the first 2 weeks after getting the car.

I was very nervous when driving for the first few times. My right leg was shaking.. Brake? Accelerate? How much to press down? I couldn’t estimate the size of the vehicle.. couldn’t estimate the front and the back. Not sure if I was driving in the center of the road..

I am good in computing but I need more time to handle this beast.

According to my friends’ experiences, it’s all about “FEELING”. You “feel” the size of your car.. join your soul with your car’s.. (ok, this is too over)

Nice car, indeed

My friend drove my Honda City and sent me to Segamat (1 hour journey) to attend a friend’s wedding to showoff the new car. I quite enjoyed the attention given ;)

According to my friend, it is a very nice car. It picks up speed very fast, smooth accelerating, quiet, and fuel efficiency.

Based on my 2 times fuel filling experience, it takes about RM60 (RM1.80/liter) to fill it full tank. The estimated millage of full tank is over 600KM, which means 1KM cost less than RM0.10.

Practice makes perfect. After driving for a couple times to town with my family or friend, I can now handle the beast alone and start to enjoy the driving experience. The only accident I had is “kissing” the side mirror with a car parked at road side in the night. Luckily, no damage done and no scratch.

The power steering is very responsive, not too soft and not too hard. The 6 speakers (Grade E) sound system is great. I am tempting to get an Apple iPod Touch to connect to my car. Yes, Honda City 2009 sound system is compatible with iPod and other USB flash drive.

I am another happy Honda City owner!

  • thats 18km/L very good FC.
  • Jackson
What? Full tank only RM60??? Unbelievable.
  • Honda City (new n old) is a very good car :D If you're buying it from Iptimas in Kluang, rest assure that they hv very good service. They recently called me up to remind me to go for the last service, even though i cannot go to their place to service.
  • I drove the older version City (IDSL) for 2 years, not as fuel economic as yours. I'm going to get the new City in end of 2009 or beginning of 2010.
  • Wah..Liew Can start date pretty gal go out already loh.haha
  • Wah..so fuel economic. You didn't put on your LiewCF.com sticker beside car plate? :)
  • i have to say bro, that new Honda City looks amazing..Honda never fails to deliver good designs!

thats a hot car, especially that awesome front grill.

    i wanna get one!
  • Congratulations to you Liew. This shows blogging as a powerful alternative to having a job. I'm working hard to get my Honda City too :)

Joining soul with your car is very true. With enough driving time, you can control your car only with thoughts. Your hands and legs carry out your instructions automatically and precisely. Even in emergency, you can avoid knocking down the motorcycle, avoid bumping the divider and slam hard on the brake simultaneously, in split second. And you wonder how you did it.

With more than 10 years of driving experience, I think I have joined soul with my old car. Haha...
  • What a nice car you have :)
  • jeseeme
    nice car.....congratulation
  • LOL... You even dare to show your full carplate number out! ;p
  • There is a simple reason why your car number will not strike 4D. Look at it this way. There are thousands of car numbers that are issued by JPJ every week. How many numbers are "selected" by 4D?

There is no reason to think that *you* are special, and your car number will be selected over that of the other thousands of new car buyers this week.

The same goes for other "special events" that people use to select those lucky numbers. Buy new phone, move into new house, get a new job. Whatever. There is no reason to suppose that the god of 4D will select your lucky number, rather than that of another of those thousands of other gamblers.

The god of statistic is vastly more powerful, and he rewards the organizer. The people who run the show, and those hangers on like people who help them sell those numbers.

As for mileage ... I'm waiting for the e-tata. :)
  • LcF
    thank you, guys.

@alvin: yes, i bought my car from Iptimas kluang. You are from Kluang too?

@James Pang: thank you, I am working hard to join my soul with my car now ;)

@Irene: any problem to show the car plate number?

@Chayim: no worry. I do not buy 4D. In fact, I don't gambling.
  • Chayim, you're right. The probability is against the gambler. I've checked the statistic for Magnum 4D. Even if you buy the number one winning number for many years, you'll still lose money.

The best way to avoid gambling is not to start it all all.
  • Nice shot ! I like the photo of your new car captured from front shot.

    Looks great ! congrats.
  • I agree with James, after a while it's surprising how instinctive driving becomes - just start off with good habits and they will stick - e.g. indicating, checking your blind spot, keeping your distance from the car in front. May sound boring, but it may keep you from damaging your lovely new car!
  • so good... a brand new car...
  • Great looking shot. Your registration number is also great, easy to remember.
The mileage seems almost unbelievable. Wishing you a great experience.
    (I drive a Toyota).

    Cheers
  • Haiyah .... that day I saw a car 1919 moving slowing in the middle of the oad holding back all the cars and causing a mass traffic jam at Jalan Mengkibol. You ar, LcF? Just kidding. Nice "transformer' car, LcF.

One day I stepped into Iptimas Kluang with my worned T-shirt, short pants and sloppy slippers. I walked 2 rounds, looked at the cars and the salesmen were reading newspapers. I was invincible. Next time must paste some money on my forehead before I go to Iptimas.
  • I'd spent rm1.2k only for my car tint...yes agree with u, it's going to spend more to own a new car...

hm...sound weird to me that u're comparing ipod vs car sound system...it's different thing to me ;)

and last, don't forget to take the picture for us when u "bang" or first stretched ur car haha...drive careful
  • Nice to hear that you're enjoying the new ride, Liew.

I can only share one tip with you - use it from 5 to 7 years and sell it for as much as you can. After that period, cars start breaking down, small problems become annoying and the car's second-hand price drops drastically.

It's something that Germans do quite often - buy a car, drive between 3-5 years, sell it on the Eastern European market.
  • I gotta agree that this new design of Honda City is one of the best model in town now, of course, the most impressive part is the fuel efficiency. You had really made a very good choice. Congratulations! You could have set your next life goal in life. Make more money online? Share your secret? Girlfriend?.... Hope your wishes come true.
  • Wow, what a nice car you have!!! Congratulation...:D
  • Nice car.. i want one too.. may be 10 years later :D
  • nice choice for your first car. How about the fuel consumption?
  • One of the best model currently. Congratulation Liew. I'm thinking seriously to buy as my second car. Should Economy slowing down bothering us from purchasing a new car or should we share the same courage with Liew?
  • Came across your site on 9rules...congrats on the new wheels - I wish they sold something like that over here in the US, but we only have the Fit (supposedly similar in size, but a 5-door variety). I'm driving an 11-year-old Accord and love it (hasn't required any major service yet, other than what was scheduled) - I hope you have the same luck!
  • oh wow, first car and it's Honda City!! Cool man.. congrats!!!!!
  • Liew, when is your next post. waiting too long already lah. Guess you are still too busy with your new Honda.
  • LeiF
    I want one too!!!
  • Kevin
    Hi, Mr Liew!

I am Kevin, 21 years-old.I come from Malaysia, Jb.

Congratulation, you got a Honda City with a lucky number 1919.

Honda City is my dream car.

    Try you best.
  • It is my dream car
  • Nice car. Here in the UK people are usually reluctant to post the pics of cars with their registration number because you can find out a lot of stuff about the owner just from that.
  • artakus
my 1st car is new honda crv
  • Fulamak, cantik la this number, mine was 9292 huhu...
  • nice number. good car too. i was contemplating getting this car when it was first launched. had a pretty decent experience with the test drive and all. it does look a lot more 'garang' and has more character than it's previous version.

however, i ended up getting a vw instead and i'm enjoying every bit of it right now.
  • liew, so when will you probably change to modulo kit? haha..
  • Congrats, this is a good buy from you. I am also getting a car soon.

    - MENJ
  • Wow.. now its my turn to get excited to get my future car! =)
  • Nice car! No doubt, the performance is awesome!
  • Smart Boy
I think Vios is better than Honda City lah .....

    Viso is the best !
  • Honda City is bigger then Vios. Vios kind of smaller compared to the city. Besides that, Vios engine also very noisy leh...
  • Congrats! Honda nice and reliable car.
  • I love honda's technology and honda city its really awesome when i travel in that i really feel the comfortable ilove that journey
