Just 2 months after I bought my lovely Canon EOS 450 (and lens), Canon unveils the 450D replacement — Canon EOS 500D (Rebel T1i)! (not the 500D close-up lens)
What’s new on 500D over 450D?
Canon EOS 500D is a combination of 50D’s sensor and 5D Mark II’s video capture in the body of 450D. Rob Galbraith has a detail reviews of 500D.

- Full HD movie recording with HDMI connection for viewing and playback on an HDTV
- ISO 100-3200 (expandable to 12800)
- 3.4 frames per second continuous shooting
- Max. 170 large JPEG images in a single burst
- 3.0” ClearView LCD with Live View mode
- High speed DIGIC 4 performance and superb image quality
Price and availability? “$899 (USD) with kit lens (EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS), $799 (USD) body only, available early May”, said Gizmodo.
My two cents
500D is a great upgrade of 450D. If you can wait till May 2009 (non-USA might need wait a little longer), 500D is definitely worth to buy as your first DSLR camera.
I have not regretted buying my 450D. I have been poisoned by the quality of the DSLR images.
Warning: Buying a DSLR means you will spend even more on other photography accessories: lenses, flash, tripod, etc.
