I am currently using TMNet Streamyx 1Mbps fixed line broadband. I always wanted to upgrade broadband package but that’s the fastest connection available in Kluang, Johor.

Not anymore. P1 W1MAX (WiMAX wireless broadband) is now available in Kluang, Johor!

I am tempted to switch to P1 W1MAX for its faster broadband speed up to 2.4Mbps. I hate the buffering process when watching online video! I hate waiting for slow downloads!

P1 W1MAX coverage in Kluang (Oct 13th, 2009)

The P1 Wimax coverage in Kluang is still limited but is expanding. My home area is yet to be covered but I have been told that it will be covered the week 44 (end of Oct, 2009).

Need your opinions…

Are you a P1 Wimax user? How is the performance? Do you get the promised speed most of the time? How about the connection stability? Disconnect often?

Please share before I “potong” (cut) my fixed line Streamyx broadband.

Packet One has launched its WIMAX service, P1 w1max, in Malaysia and extended the plan promotion to December 31st, 2008. During the promotion period, the WIMAX modem (worth RM999) is free for each subscribers.

Also, you save RM10 less on monthly charge for 2.4Mbps plan. Business plans are enjoying the same charges as Personal plans.

I tested the P1 W1MAX connection during the last PC Fair and it was good. Of course, it was not a real life test. An early P1 W1MAX tester complained about the stability of the Internet connection.

I am back from PIKOM PC Fair 2008 (II) held in KL. It was so crowded and I almost regretted goingthere… I only completed half of my PC Fair shopping list.

These are what I got: Apple iMac 24" 2.8GHz, WD My Book Studio (500GB) external hard drive, SONY DCR-SR65 40GB Handycam Camcorder. I missed the NAS, netbook, and webcam.

P1 W1Max Wimax speed test

One of the major attraction about PC Fair 2008 (II) is the P1 W1MAX wimax service. I tried the wimax connection at PC Fair, the Internet speed is quite impressive. Web pages loaded fast, no load waiting for YouTube videos.

The following is the screenshot of speed test result for P1 W1MAX:

It shows 2.66Mbps download speed and 536Kbps upload speed for P1 W1MAX wimax connection. That’s much faster than normal Streamyx broadband connection, although the upload speed is capped at 512K.

P1 W1MAX wimax service is not officially launched yet but is expected to launch in August 2008. More details such as subscription plans and prices will be revealed by then.
