Use MSN Messenger With Own Email Address

For your information, you DO NOT need a MSN/Hotmail email account to use MSN Messenger. You CAN use your own email address to login MSN Messenger. You just need to register a Passport with your own email address, then you can login MSN Messenger with the email. Cheers!

My friends are surprised that I use own email for MSN Messenger and they purposely register a hotmail account just to login MSN Messenger.

Sorry, I used wrong URL for the register passport link. The correct link is http://register.passport.net/
You can use your own email address to register a passport from the link, do not need to use Hotmail email address.
@Waqas: current hotmail space is 250MB(U.S.). if you want to increase the email space for free, get Gmail.

I liked your message about using my own (or company) Email address for an MSN Messenger account to use IM however, for a paper I am working on… I am looking for reasons why you would not recommned using a company or personal Email address for Messenger and rather recommend using a hotmail account not used for business Email. Please let me know, I value your opinion.

Frank Agri: I think IM ID represent yourselves or your company. Would you like your name card printed email as YOUR_NAME@hotmail.com OR YOUR_NAME@YOUR_COMPANY.com? I believe the latter has better image to your customer as it seems more prof.

It says that I need to verify my account to be able to read mail and change my msn name, but I cannot get to the inbox, how do I get there to ready the verifycation email?

Ok, I sign up for a MSN Email and then sign into msn messenger, it says I need to verify my email, but when i ask for a verify email i have no way to get into my inbox

do you mean that you cannot login your MSN Email account? If that’s the case, you can use the password help or seek for MSN assistant.

Please follow the instructions in the post and you can use MSN messenger with GMail.
To check emails with MSN messenger, you need to enable POP access with GMail, then MSN messenger simply loads your outlook express or your email client.

I already have an msn passport account registered with my old hotmail address that I no longer use. I wish to change my email but this does not seem possible. All I can do is change my “secondary” email which is inutile.
Do you have any suggestions?

LcF, is there a way of converting my email in my current passport account. It’s currently a hotmail acc, and I wish to use my gmail. (Similar to em’s post). The passport account does not seem to allow changes to the email address -_-. My new passport account allows this but I do not want to create a new buddy list etc. in MSN messenger.

It is not really a way to change the address but it shows how to open a new one and how to export the contact list from the hotmail account to the new account.

right i can use my email address *****@purelyhiphop.com for msn meggenger but it wont let me log in to hotmail it says:

@Scott: I was referring to using own email address for MSN Messenger, NOT hotmail.
You can’t use your own domain for hotmail.

kk, my prob is i already have a msn messenger account with my own e mail and it says that i need to verify it so clicked on the box to verify it and put in my new email (coz that wot it asked for) and it sayed it was fixed but when i went to log on using my new email all my contacts were gone. !!!!!

well…. i click on were it says erify e-mail address and then it says it will send you a messange so sign up for hotmail but when i go to sign up i cant type my e-mail address because it say

i registered with my gmail account on the msn website and recieved a verification email as well. but it doesn’t have a verification link or a code…and when i try to sign in with my gmail address it says that i don’t have the account or the passport correct….what do i do?

Is there a way to have 2 emails display? SO i have a hotmail address and a work email address but I want both contact lists to display in one msn messenger.

I have a windows live id which I use to sign in on msn messenger. but it is not a hotmail account. I’ve had the account for a while now but I cannot change my msn name because my email address is not veryfied. I never recieved a verification email so how do I verify my addres?

ive been able to login etc… etc… but im having a problem with verifying. It says you need to verify. So i did and it says thanks your account has been verifyed. But it still says you need to verify your account when i login? And also how can i change my display name?

Hi, I have registered my gmail account with MSN messenger and am also able to sign in but for some reason I cannot change my display name. the name is currently set to my email address but i want to change it to my real name and when i go into option in messenger the place where you change your display name is greyed out…how can i change this??

@jay: the trick only allows you to use your personal email for messenger. It does not mean that you can check your email account on messenger/hotmail

Hi, i have a custom domain called Jointe@h***z.lol … i simply just cant verify it through hotmail, does anyone know if there is any other way to atleast make me able to change my “nickname” in messenger? kinda annoying when it says ( Jointe@h***z.lol) ( E-mail could not be verified ).

I’ have been with my isp for several years and have been using thier email address for my msn, as I will be changing isp’s shortly this is going to be a bit of a headache, so i recommend using a hotmail one, otherwise if this does not bother you, go for it..

heh i create a custom domain account using co.cc
your account is like this yourusername@yourdomain.co.cc
of couse that co.cc is a free sub domain that can use as google apps
or msn custom domain
i do it by following

the nicest part is other ppl can register as @yourdomain.co.cc
and you can check email those who register as @yourdomain.co.cc
you can disable their email or delete them

Hi. I cannot seem to change my msn name from my phone. I have an application called meebo on my phone which allows you to chat via more than 1 I’M programme. E.g yahoo msn etc. I use msn a lot but cannot change my msn name from my phone. I don’t know why. And my phone is picking up an msn name I had previously had on my computer before I even had the phone !
