Auto Login Windows XP
Filed in: Tips n Tricks — October 2nd, 2004
After you have created two or more Windows user account in Windows XP, you greet by a login screen with the list of user accounts at start up. No more auto login to Windows.
It is rather troublesome(ok, I am lazy) that we need to manually click on the (default)user account to login Windows…
Well, I found a trick.
Auto login Windows XP
- Click Start -> Run, and type: control userpasswords2
- From Users Tab, Uncheck “Users must enter a username and password to use this computer.” and click “OK” button.
- A “Automatically Log On” dialog will appear to ask for the default(used for auto login) user account’s username and password. After filled in, click “OK” button and you are done!

Thought:
This trick is good if you have a limited access user account for anyone else in the house/office. Set auto login using the common account then the others users no need to do the extra clicking.

Don’t do that if you use your PC to dial into Internet. Always put a password to increase the level of security (although you can still get virus due to security hole in WinXP).
Downlaod and install TWEAKUI(from Microsoft). Put a password in Tweakui and let it do it for you.

This “trick” does not work if the computer is joined to a domain. To do this on a doaim you must edit the registry as per this MSKB article:

What the hell. I did this, and now I’ve lost my second account including all of the data. Rip-off.
