My brother has win98 and dialup (poor soul).
Am helping him over the phone. His problem is OE and IE crash and misbehave. I suggested he reinstall ie6 (and therefore OE) I directed him to the download ie6 with sp1 from MS ( he has win98).
As we know, all we get is the installer first.
Then, during the install when the installation tries to get the rest of the files from the net, it cannot proceed. He is on dialup.

So, I tried to get the full package as per the instructions on your site and it gets well down the track downloading modules but then says

“Setup was unable to download the required components. Please make sure you are connected to the Internet, or try to run Setup again later.”

This is nuts, I am running high speed cable and other downloads arrive in a twinkle. Also, this is supposed to be a download, not a setup.
All I wanna do is save the files and burn my brother a cd.
Is it possible for me dload the "full" from somewhere as a zip file?
I can then send him the zipped (or unzipped) files on a disc.
But even then, how will his computer know not to try and get files from the net half way though the install?

Many thanks,
Ralph

I think using the site http://browsers.evolt.org/?ie/32bit/6.0 will work best for me. I am trying to install printer drivers and I need a later version of IE to do so (even though my PC can't even connect to the internet, the reason everyone here is having these problems). So using my dads computer I am at this site but he has IE7 and in the middle of the download I am given the prompt "Do you want to run this software" with 11499 kb of 19763 kb downloaded. If I select no than the installation stops...I've yet to resolove my problem. I just need IE6 install on my jump drive or CD to install on my home pc with no net. HELP! =)

I put the file in the root, running XP SP3, ie 7.0 5730 13

It does load the eula, but then fails (unable to load the required components), , So I tried with /q, still fails.

Thank you VERY MUCH for this information, I needed to install IE6 on my Windows2000 pc but it only had dialup. Why wait several hours when I can download all the setup files on my friends DSL hooked up computer. Again a million thanks.

Thanks A LOT, you've saved me!
I'm writing these instructions in italian as well to help people find this solution more easily through google:
Se vuoi installare Internet Explorer 6 (ie6) in modalità offline (senza connessione) segui queste istruzioni!

IE6 Full Install
I have an old IBM600e, running W98SE, that I use for testing out websites on a local testbed server. The machine is not connected to the Internet. To check stuff out I needed Internet Explorer 6.

There are several sites, including Micrososft's that tell you how to get IE6 onto you machine. However all of them required the machine to be online. These instructions were also found on sites that said to do it this way and not be online as well. Needless to say none of them worked.

A complete, full installer for IE6.0 can be found here: http://browsers.evolt.org/?ie/32bit/6.0

Click the ie60.exe link and it takes you to a selection of mirrors to download from. Pick one and download the file It's a 77mb download. I downloaded it with a connected PC to a flash stick then stuck it into my 600e.

Double clicking the ie60.exe file expands the exe file into folder named IE 6.0 FULL (checked it for viruses - none).

OpenED that folder and double click ie6setup.exe and it installED Internet Explorer 6 on the Thinkpad.

I am running it no problem and have burned the IE 6.0 FULL folder with its contents to a CD for future use.

This works well. I am on dialup and have several computers. I sure did not want to go thru this more than once. It will get burned on a CD now.

One problem. You have an error in that string to enter. You have:
#
c:downloadie6setup.exe /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d:1 /s:""#E"

It should read:
#
"C:\Download\ie6setup.exe" /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d:1 /s:""#E"

In other words the slash after the word download is missing.

When I copied and pasted the line, it would not run. Then I noticed the error.

Now if only I could understand why MS does not just have an option to just download the whole file.

I will assume this will work on any download of this kind, by just changing the file name.

George

@Tony Mancini

You can use the /q switch to do a quiet install. This will bypass the dialog that comes up when you already have a later version of IE.
