Find the Best USB 2.0 Hi-speed Flash Drive
Filed in: Gadgets — April 27th, 2005

ArsTechnica ran a review on several USB 2.0 flash drives / thumb drives. See the comparison chart.
Thought:
I have only one advice on USB disk, do Not get those with write protect on media. Once the small switch is spoiled, your USB disk is not usable anymore(if it is in write protection mode)! My manager and friend have the same experience.

actually what is the correct name for this gadget? flash drive? thumb drive? pen drive? all 3 also correct? same? or are they different?
and what is the meaning of 2.0 flash drive/thumb drive? 2.0 is the speed? didn’t realise there is a speed for thumb drive. only knew of its capacity e.g. 128M, 256M.
yeah i know. that shows how non savvy i am.

flash drive? thumb drive? also pen drive? which is the correct name? all are correct? is flash drive a thumb drive and vice versa? do people also call it pen drive? *confused*
i know about thumb drive’s capacity like 128M,m 256M but i didn’t know about this 2.0 stuff - it is the speed right?
i have one thumb drive but it is a lousy brand… the brand name is just ‘pen drive’ but it serve my purpose, good enough.
thanks for the advice of not getting a thumb drive with write protect on media. how will i know it it has that or not? is it shown on the drive?

all names are ok, as long as understood by others.
2.0 mark a higher speed. Nowadays, do not get any usb device without USB2.0 support.
If the thumb drive has write protect switch, you will see a small on/off switch on the thumb drive body, mostly on side.
