My Experience with Bumiputra-Commerce Bank Berhad

Updated (20-May-2005): I believed this is rare case for BCB. BCB customer support called me, problem resolved. Peace.

I have just opened a new bank account at Bumiputra-Commerce Bank Berhad(BCB), Kluang branch. It was unpleasant experience. Guess what, I was not welcome to open a saving account!

I am not welcome?!
The bank chinese manager(or whatever title) used all kind of excuse to make me give up the idea to open my bank account there. When I asked him for reason, he can’t answer me.

He asked all kind of questions like, am I working, my company name, company bank account, whether I am Kluang citizen, and even asked me to get company supplemental letter!

Have you ever heard of open a PERSONAL bank account needs company supplemental letter?!

How ridiculous!

I can say that I am a kind guy, and I control my anger without breaking the glass. After I insists, he has no choice but let me open an account.

It took me 15 minutes to argue with him before he handed me the registeration form. I was the first batch to enter the bank in that morning but at the end I had to wait for 20 numbers in queue.

The BCB website tell me that open a basic saving account’s Minimum opening deposit is RM20, but they told me it is RM250. Outdated website info huh? Fine.

Incorrect Pin Number
It took me two hours to get my bank book and I received the ATM card’s pin number last week. I went to the bank in the last Saturday afternoon, enter the given initial pin number so that I can change it to my pin number, but failed. The given pin number was rejected.

What da hell!?

The recipient name is not recognized
I don’t want to take half day leave just for the pin number thing. Went to BCB website and there is a contact email address.

Wrote my email, send. Few minutes later, I get email error message.

Your message

The recipient name is not recognized?! Oh my… you don’t recognize customer care email box?!?!

… speechless…

Well, I think I am too high tech already, I should take the traditional way - walk in - to settle the pin number problem. And, I will meet the unfriendly chinese manager again. Duh…

Thought:
I don’t understand. I am not applying loan, instead I am giving my money to the bank, why not welcome me? Is this new policy of Malaysia banks? I don’t know. My past experience with Public Bank, Maybank and RHB bank are good.

By the way, the Malaysia banks seems like do not check their customer care email box. I once send an email to Maybank to ask about my online banking transaction but no reply no error, looks like it went to blackhole?

Sorry, I did want to keep quiet about this. But the failure of chaning pin number really made me fed up. Sigh…

Don’t ever step into a crapy BCB bank if you have a choice. There are SO MANY account holders from a particular sector of the populace that it is “always queuing time” whenever you want to get some service.

If you ever have an alternate bank around, by-pass BCB -the BEST CRAPY BANK.

I have the same experince too LcF, it’s almost smiliar to urs. At last i got no choice but to send a red complain letter to BCB in KL regarding this issue. At last, they got no choice but to see my face everyday LOL.
BCB banks service really “lauya” and could be rated worst! For my experience, Maybank is better because of the Internet banking and most of the online shop in Malaysia reconized Malayan banking.

I’m having an active BCB account as well (blaming MMU for that), but never got any bad experiences here in Melaka.

Ur experience is definitely ridiculous. Maybe the manager just got scolded or shot by his boss haha

I love my Maybank account. :P Anyway, wasn’t this bank only opened to Bumiputra people? Or was it only for special benefits?

Oh well, why open a BCB account there all of a sudden anyway? :S

I got the same experience in PJ, Sek. 14. The BCB staff asked me to open the acct in Taman Paramount as i am staying in SS4. When i told them that im working in Sek. 14, they asked for my company letter to PROVE that im working there.

U know me lar, im that kind of cannot-control-my-EQ talking with idiots. So, the brand manager kena scolded by me in front of 20 person(?). And he kept on explaining the stupid rules and regulations. I just asked him to keep his mouth shut and told him i will never TRY to open any acct with BCB anymore.

Perhaps I need to control my temper a little bit?~

You no why they’re asking ur company & your address & argue u to open an account within ur area? this is because if u have a problem regarding to ur account u have to go to the BCB branch that u make the account! Let say if u live in KL & then go to Melaka for studying. Then, u make an account (in KL) & 1 months later u receive mail about ur account and need to go to the BCB Bank. So, you must go to KL branch BCB to settle ur problems. Maybe because they doesn’t explain to u, that make u angry.

In the age of internet and telephone banking, what I am about to write is appalling. I have been having my BCB account at the UPM branch for the last 6+ years and my salary from the university is credited to that account.

Recently, I had a small dispute with the payroll department where they claim that they have overpaid me a certain amount. The dispute was between me and my employer but one silly administrative clerk at UPM forwarded the copy of the letter to the bank.

The Bank chose to act on the letter, without refering to me, and froze my account resulting in some of my regular cheques bouncing.

When I brought up this matter with the bank stating that they have absolutely no authority to act on third party instructions, silence follows and I am still unsure whether my account has been normalised.

Wired isn’t it ? where are the client privilleges? How to trust this bank with your money anymore?

My friend just bank in some money to my BCB account because I want to pay for the house deposit. So I went to the ATM machine to withdraw for only RM500. Later the machine give error msg asking me to ctc my branch. the system is unavailable. So I guess its the machine itself out of service. So I went to another ATM machine which is Ambank and RHB to withdraw fr BCB account. Unluckily the same msg appear. I don’t know what went wrong because my mum just bank in some money to this BCB account 2 months before. Seems that they r freezing my account. For what reason???? Not become an active mbr since I dont do any trx within this 2 months??? What a stupid bank. I’m still using this BCB account eventhough I have other bank’s account just because I open this account for quite some years. I’ve been loyal to BCB for almost 10 years, since I was 15 years old. So they dont appreciate me as customer. Fine…I think it’s time for me to close account with this stupid bank. Just to share my unsatisfaction wiv u guys… adios
