CYBERJAYA: Internet service provider TM Net Sdn Bhd has launched its “streamyx hotspot@home” broadband kit that includes a wireless access point with router and an ADSL modem.

The kit lets users connect to the Internet wirelessly without the need for local area network (LAN) wiring.

Users can also create a home network, although each computer on the network will require a WiFi access card. The wireless access point has a range of 200m outdoors and 100m indoors, TM Net said.

The do-it-yourself hotspot@home kit comes with the wireless access point, WiFi card, tmnet hotspot prepaid card worth RM19, user manual, set-up CD, RJ-45 and RJ-11 cables, splitter and an AC power supply adaptor.

Thought:
I am confused.

Is it “Streamyx ADSL to WiFi”? If it is, why tmnet hotspot prepaid card is included in the kit? “It is Free gift”, you might say.

If it is “Streamyx ADSL to WiFi”, you can do-it-yourselves with a wifi router(RM200-RM300) and a PCMCIA WiFi adapter(RM70).

The hotspot@home kit is currently selling for RM299, which is a discount from the regular RM621 retail price. The offer expires on July 31, TM Net said.

RM621 is definately over-priced.

I don’t know what product brand Tmnet used in the wireless kit, but we are getting “Made in China” ADSL modem when subscribe to Streamyx.

I have been to the TM Point centre and apply for streamyx line. Guess what ?? They told me there are no line at my area!!!!! Arggg…that was last week. The hotspot@home package was really cheap, not sure what brand of router and pcmcia card they provide, they got option to change the pcmcia card to wifi usb adaptor as well.

I plan to buy the package first from telekom and when i got the streamyx line fix, i can do it myself. BUT tm point staff wont allowed, they said it’s only for streamyx subscriber, =(

@ahkiong: It is not cheap. You can get the same things(wifi router + wifi card) at about the same price and branded product.

    hi harry,

Judging by what u said, u don’t need streamyx in order to have the hotspot home. I’m confused. Streamyx is not available in my area as it is more than 5 KM coverage. Tq in adv for any info.

Please refer to http://www.tm.net.my/html/htm/product_streamyx/streamyx_service_area.htm . There should have Streamyx service at Puchong. In the website, please look at no. 178 under Selangor.
