Photostat Machine Does Not Has Memory?

Filed in: Life Log — May 18th, 2005

In front my desk is my company’s photostat machine. After noticing it for months, I found out that it does not has memory!

You see… You photostat one copy, it scan and print one times. You photostat two copies, it also scan and print two times.

Why not scan one time and print many times, just like computer printer?

So big body size but no memory. Duh…

Even for laser printer, the drum has to be scanned by laser beam for every single sheet of paper if you print many copies of the same thing.

There is a kind of photocopier where it makes a hard fineprint from your original copy, and make all your copies from that hard fineprint alone. But if i’m not mistaken it is only economic if you print in bulk, for let’s say 200 copies or above. So it’s only used for mass production, like poster printing or newspaper printing.

@Chang Yang: thanks for the info.

For laser printer, the PC send the data to the printer and it will print multiple copies without resending the data. This is memory.

It would be nice if photostat machine just scan the document one time, store in memory then photostat multiple copies. Though papers still needed to scan by laser beam(that’s how laser printing works) but it save the time to scan(the light shoot out from machine) the document.

Well, as you said, I think there is such machine but not for small workgroup. :)

of course there is such a photostat machine. our office is using it! you take the original copy, feed it in the machine, the machine scans it and it goes to memory, and the original copy comes out (in which you can file it up or refer to it) while the maching keep on photostating multiple no. of copies as you many as you choose.

there are other functions too like double-sided printing and auto sorting and even stapling.

chang yang, i think the photocopying you mentioned, they don’t refer to it as photocopying but as copy printing. yes, the photocopier salesman once recommend us to buy this type of machine. since this machine makes only 1 hard fineprint of the original, then from the hard fineprint, make say 200 copies, it is still consider as 1 copy for charge. whereas the other type of photocopies, even the memory one, when you made that 200 copies, the charge is consider as 200 copies. yes, this machine is only economical when print in bulk… because even if you print 2 copies, 10 copies, 200 copies, it will print from that ONE hard fineprint.
