WordPress Three Columns Kubrick Theme
Filed in: Web Development, Weblog, WordPress, WordPress Themes — May 2nd, 2005Wordpress Default 3-Columns is a three columns(content, sidebar1 and sidebar2) layout theme for WordPress 1.5 (tested on WP2.x), based on Kubrick theme.
What’s different?
Basically, I add one more column(sidebar) at the right, shorten the header height, and add sidebars to single post view.
Download:
Installation:
Upload the extracted folder(three-col-kubrick) to wp-content/themes, click on “Presentation” in the administration panel and select it from the list. Done.
Who are using this template?
Some popular blogs are using modified version of my three columns kubrick theme such as SlackerManager, VoIP Blog, and many others.
FAQ
- How to change sidebar background color?
The sidebar background color is a background image, not CSS color. To change the color, you edit the “kubrickbg.png” image. - Do you have a “sidebar-content-sidebar” 3 column kubrick theme?
No for the moment. I will working on it. - How do I make the entire header clickable?
Open index.php. Find:<div id=”header”>
and change the line to:
<div id=”header”
onclick=”location.href=’http://YOUR_BLOG_ADDRESS/’;”
style=”cursor: pointer;”>
</div>This will make the entire header a link.

Liked this 3 columns kubrick theme, please buy me a cup of coffee. ![]()
My two cents:
The three column theme serves my own needs. I was looking for three column kubrick theme, but nobody make one. So, I made it.
This is my first WP theme, though it is simply(took me a day) modifying the default WP theme. As a CSS newbie, I learned a lot from this experience.
P/S: If this is not what you are looking for, try the list of three columns WP themes or recommended WordPress themes.
Update: Felix Ker made a widgets-enabled version of the theme.

Work until this late must be very tiring.

Anyway, feel happy for you.

Great work. I’ve also modified the default Kubrick WP 1.5 theme to add support for sidebar in single page and shorten the header graphic but your 3 columns hack is awesome. I would implement it on my site soon.

However I didn’t want the bog-standard ‘Kubrick’ template here for too long (not that there is anything wrong with it I should add), so I’ve modified the stylesheet to make it different. I’ve found out that there aren’t many easily customizable 3 column themes for Wordpress (at least for what I was looking for) and Liew Fong’s was by far the best and most adaptable. Maybe if I get up to speed on PHP, more up to speed on stylesheets and have some time to make some background graphics I’ll design a theme of my own. In the meantime I think this’ll do just fine. nice theme man! i have implemented it, there seem to be an issue of css in ie has anybody seen this? The text comes way to close to the right grey side, makes it look cramped.
Can you perhaps tell me how i can i put the search bar and adlins on top together like you did?

Great theme, just need some help on:
1. Increasing the header height to 200px. I tried editing the style.css and header.php and still doesn’t work.
2. In header.php, there are instructions about replacing the header with own image. Instructions say “personalheader.jpg” however path shows “personalheader.png”. I’ve either both by placing in the images directory but doesn’t work. Do have to delete the rotator folder?
HELP!
February 17th, 2007 at 9:13 pm
@santa: 1. In order to increase the header height, you need to edit the header image as well.
2. The original theme is using JPG format but I changed to PNG because better quality and smaller size. In order to use “personalheader.png”, you need to uncomment the line of code by removing the /* and */ around it.

[...] Eventually the closest match that I found to a Wordpress theme exhibiting good SEO is the current design for this website which is Three columns kubrick template by LiewCF. However although very good the standard theme design by LiewCF still required some work on my part. The H1 header tag in the LiewCF standard version is used for the title of the blog in my case ‘To Make Money Online’ but good SEO requires that the individual post title contains the very important H1 tag. Hi,
I have a few questions:
Does this theme work ok with the newest version of WordPress?
Also can I add a picture (image) instead of what is there now? How do I do that?
How do you add to and manage the sidebars? Do you use a plug in like sidebar modules?
Will the adsense modules show up on all pages?
How do you drop in the Google search at the top of the page like you have done?
Sorry for all the questions… keep up the good work.
Martin

@Martin Hurley: the theme works for WP2+ but not optimized.
You can use your own pic to replace the header image found in /images/ folder.
I manage the sidebar manually by editing the sidebar source code.
If you put adsense ads in single.php or sidebar.php, it will showed in all pages.
For the google search form, you can refer to my page source code.
Hope these help.

Hi Jyo, I have just used this http://codex.wordpress.org/Designing_Headers to help me, I know nothing about WP code and PHP but managed to change the colour and upload my logo and push the header text around a bit. I am still struggling with the smaller header text though, hopefully I can get some help to move this to the right, everything I have tried doesnt seem to work. So I have now asked for help. I would normally not ask, as I know its better to learn by mistakes.

Hi Neil,
Thanks for your reply and valuable input. Just like you, I also believe in learning through my own efforts. but this time I am in hurry.
I need to arrange my blog as early as possible so that I can start out with promotional activities. Anyway.. I do know HTML and CSS. so with the help of that I have been successful in changing layout and appearance of my WP blog according to my website layout. Plz check my blog..
http://www.just-health.in/weight-loss
But I need help with the navigation bar. I don’t understand how to manage it. I hope someone experienced from such high volumed site can help me.
Anyway.. solution for your problem. If you are using WP Kubric default theme then you can locate ../wp-content/themes/default/style.css
Open it and try to find out following code…
#headerimg .description {
font-size: 1.2em;
text-align: center;}
Change text -align to right and you will see small text in the header moving towards right side of the browser.
Similarly try to find out
h1 {
font-size: 4em;
text-align: center;
}
change “center” to “right” and this way your main heading text will move towards right …
it’s as simple as that. Hope it helps you in a way.. If you need any more help try to feed the feedback form on my site.. and thus I will get your email ID.
I am just struggling to find out any help for managing my navigation bar.. but not found any yet..
bye.. regards..

I have managed to do what I needed for which I thank everyone for helping. I now have the dreaded “cookie” trouble when trying to log into my own blog. Yes I have checked the forums for an answer and I have tried them all. Does anyone have the “ERROR: WordPress requires Cookies but your browser does not support them or they are blocked.” messaqe and has any one cured it or got a cure. Having tried everything I have asked my host for help to delete or reset my mySQL database as for some reason they don,t have any default access panel from their site. Has anyone got any experience in this area?

Ölüm Çiçekleri: you don’t need to know PHP to edit the theme. Since you know CSS and HTML, you only need to refer the WordPress tags at codex.wordpress.org to understand the theme. Basically, you can edit CSS stylesheet to change the layout.
