Remove MSN Messenger Side Tabs
Filed in: Microsoft, Tips n Tricks — June 10th, 2005
I have show you how to remove advertisement in MSN Messenger. Now I am going to show you how to remove the MSN Messenger side tabs. ![]()

Before: annoying and useless side tabs
After: Tabs gone!
There are two ways to remove the tabs:
- Manually: (advance user only)
Open registry editor(regedit), navigate to “HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ MSNMEssenger \ PerPassportSettings \ random_number“. Change the value of “DisableTabs” to 1 (default is 0). Done.Note: the random_number is a series of numeric. You may get a few differet numbers under “PerPasswordSettings”, change all “DisableTabs” value under them. - Auto: (Recommended)
Download Tab Enabler/Disabler for MSN Messenger 7 from Mess.be. Extract the downloaded zip file, run “ted.exe”(tab disabler).
Enter your MSN Messenger ID (e.g.: yourname@hotmail.com) into the text field, then click “Disable tabs” to remove MSN Messenger side tabs. To restore back the tabs, run the Tab disabler again but click “Enable tabs” instead.

My two cents
After removed advertisements and side tabs, this is my MSN Messenger look (contact list collapsed). Clean huh? ![]()

Just to add an alternative, my solution to remove the tab, is:-
Go to Tools > Options > Security > Enable the “This is a shared computer so don’t display my tabs” option.
No app required.

Lovely registry hack. LoL! Neva noticed the controls were in there. Yeay, now can see more of a nick since everyone’s nick is normally long.

That sounds fun, but I would prefer to remove just the four advertisement tabs and leave the contacts’ and the alerts’. How can I do that?

Its possible to remove and add several of the options of the MSN Mesenger,
I recomend MESSPATCH from http://www.mess.be
or A-PATCH from http://www.aptch.tk.
The A-PATCH have more options and works with all versions.
Have a look on this link

help! i cannot figure out how to delete all unwanted contacts from the privacy section in msn messenger. you delete them from the contact list but they remain listed under privacy.
tools > options > privacy
they remain and you cannot delete 95% of them. i want them gone!
how do i do it?
