Why Must Own a Car?

Filed in: Life Log — June 2nd, 2005

I don’t quite understand… Is CAR a must for man? Man without car is lousy? Man without car is lame? Man without car cannot get a girlfriend?

My friend was free and came to my office to fetch me so that we can have lunch together. “Why don’t you buy a car?”, there she goes again. She always tease me that I do not own a car, always need her to fetch me and laugh at me that I do not drive1. She said, “You don’t have car, very hard to date with you lah~“.

Duh…

Ya, I know she is kidding. But many people(friends, ex-girlfriends, girlfriend-wanna-be, etc) ask the same question to me before. “Why buy a car!?”, I always ask back.

I see no point to get myself a car now.

  1. Car is liability. I don’t want to tie up myself by the $%^& car.
  2. I do not need to have a car now. My brother fetch me, or I can take bus (though bus fare increased 40%!)
  3. I am not a car fan, I do not have interest at the four wheels thing.
  4. I do not have a girlfriend, and not going to have one soon.

So, girls, if you do not fall in love to me just because I do not own a car then that’s your lost. I will have a BIG car and own driver.

1. I have a legal driving license but I never hold steering again since I passed the driving test.

True, car is a GREAT and BURDENING liability. Thus, I don’t drive to PJ here, though I’ve recently started working. Simply bcos, if I drive here, most if not all, of my net salary will be paid to other parties. It doesn’t worth.

@Nilesh: nah~ my driving license still alive! :P
@Tien Soon: *nod* our poor salary cannot feed a car…
@Paul Tan: Ya, bus and LRT also are transports. :P
@CS: believe it or not, I survive without car for years! My secret is keep the bus schedule in pocket and a computer magazine in hands(to kill time).

According to my experience, the public transport in Malaysia is not that bad actually… Erm, perhaps I used to remember public transport’s time tables. :)

By the way, I enjoy meeting different ppl everytime taking public transport. It is the only chance I meet human, other than my family. :D

Since you have a legal driving license but you never hold steering again since you passed the driving test, I don’t think you still able to remember how to drive…and no car=big sucka no life…lol dont get offended by me =p this is the way i talk and people dont really need an expensive high class fancy bling bling car because paultan is right, car is for transport. BUT imagine you drive your date to Hotel Rennaisance for school prom with a Toyota Corolla GL(20 years old pardon me) which normally they keep this kind of car in muzeum. Thats what i did! haha and do you think you’ll be very proud and park your car in front of the hotel enterance? Will you still have the face when people younger than you driving Toyota Altis park beside you? How will your girlfriend feel? Not good thats for sure…im just glad that now i own a car more luxurious than Toyota Corolla GL for goodness sake haha. *Actually it is just a Gen2*

Actually this got nothing to do with peer preassure or anything…but nowadays owning a car is a must if you want to make your love one happy, less fuss, safety issue and for your own comfort to travel here and there…Imagine when you finish work and wanted to go home, you walk 30 minutes to the nearest bus stop and the rain started to fall. You did not bring umbrella and the whole bus stop is packed with people. You can’t get to squeeze in for shelter…haha so why own a car you ask?

I still remember those days when i study in Inti College Subang, i need to trouble my dad to fetch me to the nearest KTM, then take 1 hour to reach Subang, then walk 15 minutes to my college. Those were the killer days and it gets even worse when the KTM seats are full and you have to stand 1 hour to reach home after the long walk to the station and somehow it reminds me of those who paddle sampan, climb across mountain just to reach their school.

So do you actually need a car? The answer is no. Because i don’t need more car to stuck in the jam with me lol.

Well you’re lucky that you have people to fetch you in and out. You’re also lucky that you live in an area with good public transportation. I personally live in an area where the damn bus appears at the bus stop about once every 2 hours and then halfway thru the bus driver stops at a mamak for a cuppa of teh tarik. One more thing, have you ever taken the public bus at night? All sorts of unsavoury characters take the night bus… it’s a scary experience.

    In summary: no choice.

kah soon, its irks me a lot about your post.

Will you still have the face when people younger than you driving Toyota Altis park beside you? How will your girlfriend feel?

dude, will you still have the face when people younger , more HANDSOME and RICHER than you stand beside you ? How will your girlfriend feel ?

should she just dump you or just go and kill you instead ?

my parents dont own any car in their entire life, they just owned two old (10+) years bikes. With that two bikes, they manages to buy a house and raises up 6 childrens. Everytimes i rides on my father old bike, it reminds me that they have been using this old bike to raise all my siblings.

but nowadays owning a car is a must if you want to make your love one happy, less fuss, safety issue and for your own comfort to travel here and there…

if you want to make your love one happy, less fuss and safety issue blah…
improve your ‘bed skills’, get a good bed and wear condom

don’t compare external things, is just a waste of time
if you reall wants to compare, compare today with yesterday

LcF, if the girl only date the guy if only he got car, then in the future she will only marry to the guy if he got house and cash, and others luxury.
when I first date twinsdad he used his mom’s old junk (feel like it will fall apart when it on the road), but most of the time we took buses.
like you I very good on the public transport, so to me with or without car I still manage to arrive to the detination on time.
so if the girl only go out have date with you if only you got car, ask her she date the car or you, why don’t she go find a car saleman, go fly kite lar tell her.

nowadays, car became a social status thingy.. kahsoon said it already.

    its all about the status.

as for liewcf, i see lotsa reason to own a car: convenience. by car, i mean a car, not a bling bling car that can jump like those in usa.

probably kennysia would not need it much since hes in kuching which gives me an impression where if you get lost, u still can “gostan”. unlike KL, when you skip the junction.. you have to continue ur way in kesas, ldp(whateva highway) like xxKM before you get an exit.

my reason to own a car : convenience.

no face ? let me get rich first and i’ll tell you what car i drive.

anonymous chee ken, i “khao tao” ur parents with that bike. i respect them. and i think mister kahsoon is like too much. learn how to respect ok.. should mister liew delete it, since its not related to the topic ?

heh i am exactly the same! one of my reason is that i can’t really drive, don’t now how i managed to pass (it was all a blur) and people of the world should just be grateful i’m never going to drive, haha.

yes i know how it might be convenient to own a car, or to be able to drive but i’ve managed. i don’t think it’s acceptable to just ’settle’:

can’t imagine anyone can survive without a car in Malaysia, considering the public transport is a total crap

i shudder to think when every person who thinks this way and everyone being able to afford a car each. can you imagine?

    JennyHow Says:

i don’t think it is about status or a girl likes you because you got a car.

you can own a kancil, a cheap n small car, the girl will still stay with you if she loves you. we girls, ask you to get a car because of the comfort. imagine going shopping buying alot of things and in the end have to wait for bus, going up crowded bus, raining, etc…?

And it is romantic to be in the car just alone the two of you, don’t you think so?

So, a car is 100% better than having no car at all when going dating.

  23. #23
    JennyHow Says:

oh, i forgot to add, what about if you want to bring her to places, no public transportation goes to? With no car, your dating activities revolves around limited places. You can say you take a taxi, but that will incur more $ in the future rite? and waiting. imagine the girl makeup nice, waiting for bus or taxi, it can be so bloody hot. making our makeup melt, hair goes messy and how to wear sexily, when have to stand on the road side waiting for public transportation?

If you are smart, you’d know how to calculate which is the wiser choice.
