Cancel Amazon.com Book Order Even After Shipped
Filed in: Life Log, Web — July 13th, 2005
Here is the followup about my first book ordered at Amazon.com. I contacted Amazon.com after I found that the order cannot be canceled, and I got reply few hours later.
Though by the time received the email, the item is already in “shipping soon” status and cannot be canceled. But, I found that we can still reject the order after it is shipped, and get full refund!
Here is the snip of Amazon.com reply:
“Web Copy That Sells: The Revolutionary Formula for Creating Killer Copy Every Time” was listed on our web site with the following availability estimate: “This item usually ships within 24 hours.” This item was in our inventory and it entered the shipping process immediately after you placed your order. You should receive an e-mail confirming this shipment shortly, if you haven’t already.
We apologize for the inconvenience. To avoid disappointment in the future, please bear in mind that it is extremely difficult to modify an order for an item shown as shippable within 24 hours.
If you don’t want the item, here’s what you can do:
1. When the package arrives, refuse the shipment. This lets you return it without paying for return shipping.
2. Visit our online Returns Center (http://www.amazon.com/returns) for complete returns instructions.
Please ship the package using an economical airmail method. We will issue the appropriate refund when we receive the package in our fulfillment center.
When we receive your return, we’ll issue a full refund and send you
an e-mail confirming the amount.
Will I return back the book?
Nope. Since I already planned to get the book, I don’t want to waste another few weeks time on re-order the same book.
I am satisfied with the reply. It solved my question. I also learned that we should be extra careful on “24 hours delivery” books and we can always return back the ordered item and get full refund.
Cheers for Amazon.com beginner! ![]()

why do you want to cancel the order?
did you found the same book with lower price?
sometimes there are loopholes where you can find the same book with much lower price.

Duh… I never say I want to cancel the order!
The local bookstore is selling at lower price but no stock. Also, it is cheaper NOT because of the book itself(Amazon.com book is cheaper). Only that the shipment fee is much cheaper from local bookstore.

Life Feel: you were dealing with 2nd book seller and not Amazon.com? I will only deal directly with Amazon.com.
I think a company with 10 years reputation is enough for us to trust it.

Joshua Yip: The book is “Web Copy That Sells: The Revolutionary Formula for Creating Killer Copy Every Time”. There are certain items that Amazon.com does not ship outside U.S., example: magazines.

Amazon are awful especially for International orders. I ordered a book that was to be shipped from the US to Europe and paid extra for fast shipping. I was told at the time of ordering that it would arrive between 9-15 days. Then I get a confirmation email after I paid saying that it actually wouldn’t be shipped for a further MONTH and then it would take a further 25 days to arrive! (a total wait of almost two months). I tried to cancel it straight away under “my account”, but even though it’s not being shipped out for a month I cannot cancel, since it is being “processed”. Therefore the whole cancel feature seems utter crap and non existent. But maybe this shoddy service is just for international orders?
Customer service is a joke - 3 emails, 2 weeks, and still no reply. The number for international buyers doesn’t work.
If you have any other choice avoid Amazon, even if it means paying a bit extra because going with them will cost more in time and money anyway!
