Credit Card. No Credit Card.

I was nearly fill in the Maybank credit card online application form. That was close! I did not plan to get a credit card, therefore I applied for the PB debit card.

Credit card become useful when you want to purchase big item like Apple iBook which cost few thousand ringgits (RM3999 to be exact). You see, I do not wish to bring 4K cash from Johor to Kuala Lumpur!

Nowadays, you can get 0% interest installment with most notebook purchasement.

So, What stopped me?

The "EMPLOYMENT DETAILS" in the application form. I do not know how to fill in it. I have resigned, basically, I am unemployed status now. Will the bank accept my credit card application? Can I enter existing company info? Will they really check with my ex-company?

I halted there. :| (though my income is enough to apply a credit card...)

How does a full time freelance apply for a credit card? Any tricks ideas?

Instead of your employment record (pay slips usually works), credit card companies may require self-employed or entrepreneurs to submit their latest Income Tax Return(ITR).

Your ITR will provide proof of your annual income. You can still request for your tax forms from your last company.

    This is an option too.

I will contact the AppleCentre to see if there any other payment method or not, I think they can accept Maybank2u transfer.

Remember those movies where the drug trader make deal in a secret place and use notebook to do online money transfer? I gonna do the similar thing. ;)

i think PB debit card should be useful enough…i been using it for 3 years now.. althou still 0 income. hehe some charge interest though. like when i bought a camera i was charged 2%. but anyway its still better than u carrying 4k cash around. but beware, if u lose yr card its gonna be troublesome. those ppl dont really care whether u r really the card holder or not :s they dont bother to check the signature sometimes

Liew, if you pay your notebook by card you will be charged an 2.5% extra since they don’t make much from sales. It will be the best for you to pay by cash in order to prevent the extra 2.5% surcharge which is around RM$100.

As for credit card application, it will be tough if you don’t have any jobs or business. It’s probably possible if you can deposit $1500 for 3 months or $4500 a month and ask them if they can exempt any of those documents.

Maybank credit cards charge you registration and annual fee which is a heck lot whereas others don’t charge such things at all. Expect to save RM$150 / year. Citibank is the best of all and it does give us more benefits .

    Hope this helps.

if you can don’t apply credit card lar, there are always charges on here and there, sometime amount is not very much, but the hassle to call them to clarify very troublesome.
I think debit card is good enough right, now a lot places accept the debit card just like the credit card.

No, Public debit card doesn’t have the latest EMV chip. Many merchants don’t accept.

don’t you know there are MEPS cash ? its actually debit card.

not many know that you cna use your maybank atm card to pay at most of carrefour outlets. even your mykad has meps cash…

    Bee Says:

I know about MEPS cash, e-debit, e-purse bla bla bla. I know Carrefour accept them but when you go to a lot of places like even Giant, Jusco, gas stations they’ll say no to these local MEPS system. They are currently or have already shifted most credit card facilities to the latest EMV chips. MEPS system are quite useless actually because most places will only provide the credit card machine which doesn’t support ATM MEPS cards…

Debit card is good. There are many good features such as ATM withdrawals etc of which you guys all know about but I am going to explain the downsides here:

    1. 50% of the websites don’t accept it.
    2. Only 0.5% cashback. No discounts, bonus, specials, offers, benefits.
    3. Only 25% of the merchant outside accept Visa Electron (A quarter of Visa credit card only) But with the new shift of the current EMV chipset, I would say almost nobody outside now accept the magnetic Electron cards already.
    4. Need to pay annual fee $25! :(
    5. It’s not as steady and cool as Classic, Gold, Platinum or even Infinite status cards. :)

    Hope this explains… :)

Actually I’m also same as Liew’s Situation. Not interested in local jobs but instead choose to cari makan online fulltime using Public debit card. :) I made good money online but when I tried to apply Citibank Gold card, the salesperson will always ask this and that lah. :(

I might simply get a bank statement with my source of income to show them and try to convince them when I have the time. But then again, the local people here are very damn sensitive and not open minded. Cannot do anything also.

The best way will be showing them you got ten million dollars in the bank account. Just say I’m already damn rich and damn you for asking stupid questions about my jobs or businesses. I don’t even need to work already. LOL. :)
