List of Million-Dollar-Homepage-Like Websites

Filed in: Web — September 27th, 2005

After published The Million Dollar Homepage, we get some response about the easy money idea and we found that websitess with similar concerpt are growing. Here is the list of million-dollar-homepage-like websites I got so far.

  • http://www.milliondollarwebpage.com — 1 pixel 1 USD. You can win ad space from lucky draw. Host you ad until at least January 1, 2013.
  • http://www.homepageoftheyear.com — each block is 10 x 10 pixels. US$20 a year for each block, and $40 a year for each block in high attention area.
  • http://250000.org — $25 per 10×10 pixel block. Each pixel has a chance to win prizes.
  • http://www.millionpixelpage.com — $0 per block. It is free.

Blog is joining Million Dollar Homepage, too

Beside the dedicated website for pixel selling. The gadget blog — OhGizmo! is also creating a top banner ad space for pixel selling. 1 pixel for $1, each block is 10×10 pixels and keep for a year.

Thought

You may notice that the Million-Dollar-Homepage-like websites are not doing well. They may even end up losing money by hosting a blank website for year(s). Also, in SEO point of view, buying a text ad is better than a pixel ad. Afterall, text is more descriptive and search engines does not understand graphic.

No more copycats: I found that we have enough million-dollar-homepage like websites. So, this post is closed for comment. Good luck!

I just saw an article on your site about million dollar home page. There are some stories out there about http://www.pixelbay.org that talk about growth even faster than MDHP. Looks like some public company named In Touch Media group is behind it.

I made a similar site for fun, with 20×20 blocks:

Take a look, I have 3 levels of pricing for the more valuable ad space.

Alex Tew is a genius, and deserves credit. I’m doing a “spinoff” site to try to raise money for a new home. When some ads are sold, I’ll buy space on Alex’s page out of respect.

I decided to drop my spinoff site. Refunds were issued. There are just too many people jumping on the bandwagon, and I didn’t want to be locked into hosting a mostly empty page for 5 years. It was really just something I was testing the waters with. It turns out that the water is getting too crowded with sharks.

My url now forwards to a list of current “Million” clone sites. It’s a wiki, so anyone can edit the list if they know of new sites.
