Note: From now on, the monthly post titled “Usage Summary” is changed to “Site Summary”. The change is to include more information rather than site traffic only.

August 2005 made a new traffic record. The RapidShare and hedgehog babies made up 25% of the site traffic. And, LiewCF.com was boingboinged because of the latter. It is my great birthmonth! :D

Site Traffic

Usage Summary: August 2005
Usage summary for LiewCF.com (Quick help)

Monthly Totals
Bandwidth: 40GB+
Visits: ~233,000
Pages: ~600,000
Hits: ~5,830,000 (5.83 millions)

The traffic boost is basically due to the boingboig effect. Here is the daily usage for August 2005 to give your clearer image about the effect.

I am wondering why there is drop on 21st August (Sunday).

Adsense Earning

I was testing new ads layout but still manage to get 14% more than the total earning of July 2005. It is also the highest earning month so far. :D

What’s Next?

I doubt I will get the same traffic level as August 2005 in this month (September 2005), if without any popular_site effect. However, I will officially become full time blogger this month. You can expect more updates from me. Also, according to current trend, September 2005 will reach a new adsense earning record. :)

I came to your site from the wordpress support forum when searching for a navigation bar; in the beginning, I think your site has too many ads which wasn’t too attractive to me; but your interesting contents and frequent updates made me impossible not to surf the net without surfing your site everyday now!!!!!!

What is the difference between hits and visits? And how can I check my hits?

  14. #14
    LcF Says:

you may refer to Webalizer Quick Help.

    XeroCool Says:

Bank: Hits is the times people visit your site and refresh the page. Let’s say, If I was on your site and refreshed the page 10 times, that would be 10 hits. Lets say I refresh it 20 times, and visit 2 diffrent pages and 2 other pages. That would be 24 hits.

Visits: I think your referring to “Unique Visitors” which is IP based. All It is is it checks the IP off the visitor, and counts it as a unique visitor. So for every new IP, It’s a new unique visitor. If I refresh the page, It doesnt count as a new “Unique visitor” since my IP hasn’t changed or anything. If I went to browse your site with 5 diffrent proxies, that would be 5 unique visitors.

unlike pages, hits actually counts requests on all files including html, images, javascript files, flash files etc.

and according to the webalizer help Lcf linked us, visits for each user is recounted every 30 mins for webalizer. personally i use shortstats ( http://www.shauninman.com/plete/shortstat/ ) to get daily unique visitors count :)

forgot to mention, adbrite’s “Your Ad Here” link shows pretty accurate pages views and visitor daily unique visitors info too, for example: http://www.adbrite.com/mb/commerce/purchase_form.php?opid=34322&afsid=1
