Filed in: Chitika Tips, Make Money Online, Tips n Tricks — October 5th, 2005
I shared some Chitika eMinimalls information and tips with you. Here I let you know how to hide the "Search" tab on the ads.
Hide Chitika eMinimalls search tab

Simply add a new line of code: ch_nosearch = 1; in your existing eMinimalls code.
Example:
ch_non_contextual = 1;
ch_nosearch = 1;
var ch_queries = new Array('keyword', 'keyword');
var ch_selected=Math.floor((Math.random()*ch_queries.length));
ch_query = ch_queries[ch_selected];

Does remove "Search" tab increase clicks? I am not sure yet but at least now you have one more option about the ads.
Update: You are REQUIRED to hide "Search" tab if you are using Google Adsense search in the same page.

Thanks. Quite handy, though I’ve not tried the search yet. What does happen when someone uses it?
Cheers.

If user use the search, it will swtich to a related product in the ads.
October 5th, 2005 at 1:09 pm
is that allowed by chitika’s team?
it’s great if we can also modify other parameters as well

Darren is hidding “Search” tab. If he can, why can’t we?
Dig in the chitika javascript code for more hidden parameters.

But is the search tab not a good idea? It allows you to find a better product without leaving your site, and if users like it - click the new product. Does this violate the TOS in any way?

Quick Online Tips: I am testing ads without search tab. I don’t see why it will violate the TOS. I am contacting Chitika to confirm it.

Hi LcF,
Just a note, here is what I found in Chitika TOS:
I doubt we can modify any code, same goes to Google AdSense.
Please be aware.

But we modify Chitiika code so that it can be placed in the same page with Adsense?
October 6th, 2005 at 5:05 pm
I just tried using the auto code generator in Chitika website, and I found just simple colour attributes only, no other attributes.
October 6th, 2005 at 5:33 pm
the code generator in Chitika website is very basic only. Feature like specified ads keyword also need to manually add.
October 6th, 2005 at 5:59 pm
HmMMm… left only the question whether to breach the TOS of chitika by altering the code then.

if you read this post at Quick Online Tips, Chitika’s stuff even gave him tips for using brand names as keywords. So it can’t be wrong

[...] After reading this post, I found out that Chitika’s Search tab must be hidden in order to comply with AdSense for Search TOS. So, I made a quick update to my [CA] Chitika plugin and add additional parameter to display/hide the search tab. The code to hide the tab is based on LiewCF’s post here. [...]

The search tab does not need to be hidden. As per latest confirmation from Google the search tab in Chitika does not search the web - just Chitika’s site, so it’s not in violation of Google TOS.
