Do You Buy Game from Internet?
Filed in: Life Log, Web — October 13th, 2005
My first computer game shopping experience via Internet.
My younger brother found a classic 2-D spaceship game demo, shot down the enermies, got the points then can buy more advance weapons. My brother loves it! Since his birthday is coming soon, I decided to buy the game for him…
The game is about USD$20. I pay for the game using PB Visa Electron credit debit card. It is accepted, though it does not state that accept Visa Electron.
Few minutes later, I receive an email from the company. It asks me to re-confirm the phone number I submited in the order form. I explain that it is country code, area code and my phone number.
After a while, I receive the order receipt and the game download link. My brother use FlashGet, a download manager to download the game.
Everything seems working fine until the download is almost complete…
My brother tells me that the download suddenly fail. It says “download file size changed, cannot resume download”. I visit the download link manually but I get a download number exceeded error.
Oh no! It blocks my download link already!
I understand that the website prevent customer to forward the game download link to others. But it haven’t complete download it! My brother should not download the game using download manager (which open multiple connections to the server).
One lesson learned: Never use download manager to download purchased software.
What’s now? I send an email to the company and ask for help. I am now waiting for their reply… *cross fingers*
Do you have similar experience? Do you buy games online?

Does PB charge u any extra fees for using it outside the country?

oh… perhaps they don’t support resume functions, once you download it (either finish or not) and you stop, you can’t resume again..
i’m pirate download users.. never buy games online.. haha.. feel that it’s not worthed

geckoseiya: there is no extra fee, PB use current exchange rate to calculate the amount.
WTJ: Ya, I think so. To prevent mass download from 1 download link. Well, I don’t support pirate. Pay if you are affordable.

Adoih hehehe, next time don’t split up the download. But even if u didn’t split the download, some server have time limit, so after a while the link expired. In that situation, what i woud is initiate the download again at the source website (i think it usually happens when I download stuff at FileFront).
But then, your case might be different one…

Hey LCF this is a little off subject but:
I’m a long time reader of your blog. I know you may have posted about this earlier, but I was wondering about your page rank?
It used to be 6 or 7 didn’t it? I was wondering if you know why this happened?
Oh, by the way what site did you try to download from?
October 14th, 2005 at 11:50 am
aHfUi: no, I am using debit card.
cell: my site is climbing from PR00, it has never get PR6 or above. I buy the game from Divo Games.

Aiks, what you said is true.
Never use download managers for purchased software.
Some payment processors such as DigitalRiver has file hosting for companies such as Symantec.
If you buy Norton Antivirus, you’ll get to download it immediately after you pay and they limit your downloads to 1-3 times if I’m not mistaken.
To maintain your download times, you can “PURCHASE” the extra download times. Ridiculous isn’t it?
LcF, may I know which game was it you purchased from Divo Games?
I can find retail versions for most of the games from them

it is AstroAvenger.

good lesson there, about not using download manager. thanks lcf.
hey, you wrongly use ‘credit card’ in your post instead of ‘debit card’ that’s why some of the members here get confused, i think.
see 3rd paragraph? you wrote “PB visa electron credit card” when it should be “PB visa electron debit card”.
yes wong, visa electron card is like reload card. anyone, even those not working can apply for it. as you said, with just RM50, one can apply for it already. my 18 years old nephew also uses it. i love using it too.

oh. my mistake. sorry guys.

Divogames.AstroAvenger.v.1.5.3.Retail-ZWT
Try search for it, it’s out there.
Although the latest version is 1.5.5, but I think the 1.5.3 is still playable

I just Re-READ the email receipt. It stated that it will take 2 business day to reply support questions. *shrug*

Mr liew, i never bought games online. I’ve bought e-book online, and yes usually they give you a random link and the user is only permitted download “attempt” for only 4 times, and after that the link is no longer valid.
Usually they’ll tell you in the email/receipt not to do parallel download as most Download Manager did. But IMHO, using Download manager is ok, as long you dont try to open more that one connection simulataneously.

I bought Sims 2 via gamers.com.my. Everything’s fine, but the payment method is abit difficult for youngsters like me, esp it need parents’s “power” to sign the cheque or credit card numb.

Last time i apply it, frist year FREE but we will be charge RM24 each year for next …

To anyone, if you are earning at least RM1500 everymonth through Google or any other methods on the internet, just show the bank that you have income through your Bank Statement.
It’s good enough to apply for a classic card.
Don’t need to register any company name or whatsoever!
Just for your knowledge, your income through internet WON’T BE taxed. This rule came year 2004.
