Why are the other website has higher rank than yours? What are the factors that affect your website ranking in search engine result? SEOmoz published an article on Search Engine Ranking Factors. Each factor is rated by the importance level.

There are lots of factors - Google, Yahoo, MSN all have different criteria. I notice their search results have taken different directions over the last 2 years…. used to be yahoo & msn would throw out similar results to Google.

Even your domain name registration date is important for Google. Recently registered domains submitted to Google will go into a sandbox and sit there for months before it can get decent rankings in the Google index.
