Spam Karma 2 - powerful anti spam wp plugin
Filed in: WordPress, WordPress Plugins — October 6th, 2005
These few days receive a lot spam comments. Though they are blocked for moderation by WordPress default anti spam function, but it is still troublesome to mark them as spam and remove them. Therefore, I installed Spam Karma 2.
Spam Karma is powerful anti spam script. I installed once last time but it is too powerful that removed some healthy comments -- false positives. I uninstalled Spam Karma after using it for a short while.
Now, Spam Karma version 2.0 is released. It has improved a lot. I decided to try it again to fight with spam comments. Hopefully it does not fail me. I will make a donation to the script author if Spam Karma win over spam comments. ![]()

Huh? I thought you are using spam blocker all these while? Don’t tell me you delete them manually everyday?
Last time i get like 20 comment spam per hour, after installing

I don’t get any crap from my comments anymore until this day.

SK2 is excellent! Very rarely it blocks non-spam trackbacks, but you always get e-mails informing you of comments and trackbacks that are held in moderation. Bad Behaviour is good too - do check it out.

I have SK2 also but not sure why just now (about 1-2 hrs ago) some spammed got through. I have increased the strength from the options. Going to put up Bad behaviour too. I hate spams.

I’ve Bad Behaviour+Spam Karma, only BB is not enough, some spams are powerful to get through it. I chatted in Wordpress’ IRC and the guys told me that SK is the Ferrari in catching SPAM.
But one problem though: Before, every comment (non-spam ones from my friends or net-pals) are held for my moderation for approval, but now, with SK, it approves my frds’ comments itself, which I don’t like. I wish there will be a function for admin to choose whether they want NON-spams comments are held for moderation or not.
To Liew, the documentation you email me was the older version of SK; by the way, know any ways how to add the function to SK I suggest???

I was using Bad behavior plugin and wordpress build-in anti spam only. Installed SK2, no more spam comment but it auto approve non-spam comments (even from strangers).

stchatterbox - I know what you mean. I got flamed a few times as a result of that. Usually, those flamers can’t get their comments published until I approve but now their comment got through my claws.
Liew, if you can figure out how to make blog owner approves first time commentors, that will be great.

lilian, this is what I’m quite afraid of. there’re some “bad” strangers, not spammers who’ll say nasty things, and I wanna moderate them before they goes out.
now with SK, it approves all these itself!

I found an advance setting in SK2 under “Anubis”. I am testing it.
