Yahoo and Microsoft To Link IM Services
Filed in: Microsoft, Yahoo! — October 13th, 2005
You have friends using Yahoo Messenger and MSN Messenger. At second quarter of 2006, you will be able to see all your friends in contact list using either one instant messenger. They will be linked!
Consumers using the Yahoo Messenger or MSN Messenger programs will be able to exchange instant messages, see the presence of their contacts, share emoticons and add friends from either service, the companies said. Interoperability is expected to kick in during the second quarter of 2006.

I don’t really care about it. I am using free multi-protocal IM (Mac: Adium, Windows: Trillian). I will only use the official version if I want to do audio/video chat (so far, I haven’t do it before…).

the catch is the interporability of the clients. You just need one messenger and you are done. You dont need one that features both as in the case of trillian.

Cheayee: no, Yahoo and MSN is not link yet. you can add friend’s yahoo email because he is using yahoo email to register MS Passport. It is same as I am using liewcf.com email in MSN. Your friend STILL need to logon MSN IM network.
