Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5 Released!

Mozilla Firefox’s brother, Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5 has been released. Here are some of the new features I like:

Automated update to streamline product upgrades.
Spell check as you type.
Build in phishing detector to help protect users against email scams.

My two cents

I have been using Thunderbird 1.5 RC for a few months. It was stable even though it was not the final release. The “spell check as you type” feature will underline any misspelled word with a red line and a list of suggested words appear when you right-click on it. It is extremely useful for me.

You have posted in a separate entry how to make FF1.0 extensions work in FF1.5.

Can we apply the same for Thunderbird extensions that do not work in 1.5??

I just upgraded to TBird 1.5 from TBird 1.0.7 and one the extensions, I find indispensible is the |Show SMTP Usernames| extension the version available does not work wiht 1.5,

Any ideas. Thanks

@RJ: you mean “Make Old Extensions Work in Firefox 1.5” ? I don’t think the trick works on Thunderbird, because we cannot access Thunderbird’s about:config (I remember there is a extension for that…)

Anyway, you can try to unzip the extension (it is actually a zip file), edit the file andchange the version number. Please back up thunderbird profile before you install the modified extension.

Thanks for your prompt response.

Shows how conditioned we become.

I was looking for a button to lead me to set the relevant Username. I see that in 1.5, |settings| of each account actually shows the smtp usernames as a dropdown box.

So, as it turns out, a hack is not necessary.

Thanks and compliments on the range of contents you have blogged about. The adds crowds the place a bit, but then the server’s gotta be paid for, right?!!
