Microsoft Launched Office Live Beta
Filed in: Microsoft, Technology, Web — February 16th, 2006
Microsoft has launched Microsoft Office Live beta for free trial. There are three versions of Office Live: Live Basics, Live Collaboration, and Live Essentials. Live Basics is FREE, even after its beta stage.
With Office Live, Microsoft is offering e-mail, Web domains, Web site hosting and other services for free during the beta. Once Office Live moves to final status around November, the most basic package of services will remain free. Microsoft will sell other packages on a subscription basis.

What is Microsoft Office Live?
Microsoft Office Live is NOT an online version of Microsoft Office. Office Live provides a domain name, website, and email accounts. It also offers some business management applications (online), such as customers, projects, and document management tools. Therefore, Office Live is a service to let you manage your business anywhere and anytime, it is not an online application to create your word document.
My two cents
Microsoft Office Live Basics is free! You get a website with your own domain name and email accounts without paying a cent to Microsoft! Sound like a good deal huh? But I will keep myself away from good offers like this. By the way, you are required to submit your credit card information in order to sign up for Office Live beta.

This is a good ideas to capture SMC segment. In this way, MS can attract many sign up for free web host and domain name.

The Free domain is too attractive. I’m sure this service will beat down lots of other hosting companies. I’m too tempted too! But need a credit card? Then it sounds too bad.

Manage business online for free? Sounds too good to be true. The free domain would most probably be a sub-domain. My two cents says that Microsoft is offering for free so that they can get statistics on businesses.

Katana, maybe you’re right about the sub-domain; or Microsoft would put an ad on the site like most free hosting for the basic package. I’ve just discovered the live collaborate and essentials are the same price! I’m waiting it to open internationally, and I’ll definitely try.

Ya I made a free account and its just like they promised, free domain and hosting. It comes with alot of tools and templetes to build these easy sites. After messing around with that I wanted to really build a site and so I tried to upload my html files to the domain. Heres the problem, you cant upload your entire site to the domain. Microsoft leaves you stuck to build site with their tools and then only upload images and documents to it. So for those of us that need to put up our entire sites or forums and such we might be out of luck here.
