Wireless Network to Cover the City of London
Filed in: Technology — February 22nd, 2006
What would you do in a city with wireless network coverage, where you can go online at every corner of the city?
The City of London is to offer ubiquitous wireless internet access, with hardware installed in lampposts and street signs.
Internet provider The Cloud is joining with the City of London Corporation to turn the entire business area into a gigantic Wi-Fi hotspot.
Of course, it is not a free service. You pay by business subscription or using a pay-as-you-go account.

My two cents
Cellphones will not be needed in London. They use VOIP.
I don’t know when we will get city wide wireless network in Malaysia. I am afraid hardwares installed in lampposts and street signs will get lost or spoiled the next day…

Hey Liew. I think shifting the comments link to the top was a good idea for you! Less cluttered this way.

I think it’s moving backward.. shouldn’t the trend now to push the 3G, places in Japan and Finland, Norway are so hi-tech in their mobile that they can do lots of things with a phone on hand, that probably includes using it to replace any wi-fi hotspot and get online.

I work with computer. the moment I am off, I am off. I guess staying online all the time at a fee all the time is for those who play online. Get a grip, keep down to earth.

I guess no body cares that all these wireless stuff is increasing mutation rate. As for my lab work, I now made it compulsory for my team member to leave their hp, laptop in a special room, while the gene extraction and sequencing is done in a seperate room. As I hv observed, among a group of international researchers, the mutation on the sequences we handled increases with presence of wireless device. We were not investigating relationship between wireless and mutation, but wanted to explain, why such a large diversity and high mutability on the data that we have.
Having wireless through the city, is not going to help. But for sure, it is going to induce more gene related diseases in the next 50 years or so.
take care u all.
